Naseem Hamed's brother could go to jail for taking the law into his own hands. Murad Hamed has been told he could be imprisoned for a mistaken 'citizen's arrest' of an innocent man.
Murad, 25, admitted affray at Sheffield Crown Court.
A family spokesman said today : "It is a very unfortunate situation which got out of hand. Murad is very regretful and remorseful for what happened. His family is 100 per cent behind him.
"Everyone makes mistakes and Murad is no exception. Hopefully he will eventually be able to put this behind him."
In an earlier hearing at Sheffield Magistrates Court, prosecutors said Hamed pursued a man across Sheffield in a car chase before demanding the man's car keys.
Hamed wrongly believed his victim, Greg Walker, had stolen a Peugeot belonging to the Hamed family, it was alleged.
Judge John Swanson told Hamed and his co-accused, Sameer Mohammed, 25, they could face jail.
He said: "You genuinely believed you had been wronged by the complainant. But there is a public interest in people not taking the law into their own hands. If I were to sentence you today you would receive a prison sentence."
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports.
