Joe Calzaghe To Sign With Golden Boy Promotions?

There is some heavy talk going around the industry that Joe Calzaghe is on the verge, or already has, signed an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions. Those familiar with the situation say the deal is similiar to the recent agreements that Golden Boy has made with two other UK fighters, Ricky Hatton and David Haye, where Golden Boy would co-promote shows with Calzaghe's promotional company, Joe Calzaghe Enterprises. Golden Boy is partners under separate deals with Hatton's Punch Promotions and Haye's Hayemaker Productions.

Calzaghe recently split from longtime promoter allegedly. Warren has since filed a lawsuit against Calzaghe. Sources say that Golden Boy will not be directly involved with Calzaghe's upcoming bout with Roy Jones Jr., set for September 20 in New York's Madison Square Garden, but they are said to be advising Calzaghe, who co-promotes the show with Jones' company, Square Ring.

Some have said that Golden Boy and Bob Arum of Top Rank may have discussed a direct road to Calzaghe if Kelly Pavlik manages to beat Bernard Hopkins on October 18 on HBO pay-per-view. Both Calzaghe and Pavlik are campaigning to fight each other.

Funny how the Promoter/Manager rops the fighter if he s not happy with him or if he loses 2 fights in a row then they have the option to drop him, I think that's a typical SN contract.

Seems like quite a tight ship and I would imagine their loyalty is with Enzo rather than Frank.

Re JC's contract I would imagine it had lots fo ifs and buts re extending the relationship included (like Hattons did) which, like the Hatton case, will only be sorted out in court.

Robinson did not have time to train properly and was beaten - he would have lost anyway, but should have got

Joe will have been advised by his lawyers who will have looked at the contract. Cant see Joe doing anything without getting legal advise first. I hope Joe only has two fights left, Jones Jnr and Pavlik, I dont want to see him go on too long. I thought RJJ was to be his last fight but I can understand him taking a multi million fight with Pavlik. Very risky but a huge, huge payday and if Joe was to win that not too many would argue about his greatness. That would be a perfect ending to his career.

Whenever Fwank sulks I wll bring this up.

I am sure that Robinson would have retired after that fight if he had been paid the money he was due. He carried on fighting when he should have been relaxing.

Hopkins Is a cheat who shouldn't be near a ring again after not coming to fight when Joe fought him. Oscar just loves the limelight.

We all those fights with Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad and Godzilla Fwank claimed were going to happen circa 1998-2004 for Joe "verbal contracts" too?

But, personally, I'd take Fwank as a promoter over the Golden Empire any day. Fwank can and does develop stars, even with little or no natural talent to work with, whereas all the Empire has does thus far is swoop in and take over careers of established stars.

Hobby horse of mine, sorry, but I can see what the Empire is taking boxing and I don't like it one bit.

Verbal contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.
