Greatest Knockouts: Patterson vs. Johansson
By Bert Randolph Sugar
If "Peanuts" cartoon character Charlie Brown had been a boxer, he would have been Floyd Patterson. Patterson's ring career was a tightrope walk across the chasm of his own introspective personality. He was a sensitive man, a perfectionist, and his own worst critic. The press admired Patterson the man, but doubted his credentials as a fighter. Floyd probably would have preferred it the other way around.
Patterson was born on Jan. 4, 1935, in Waco, N.C. His family migrated to New York, and young Floyd became embroiled in a life of petty juvenile crime. As with many ghetto youths, boxing became his salvation. His amateur career was spectacular, resulting in two New York and Eastern Golden Gloves championships in 1951 and 1952, and an Olympic gold medal in the middleweight division at the 1952 games in Helsinki. He turned pro on Sept. 12, 1952, with none of the fanfare that accompanies the debut of today's Olympic champions.
Under the tutelage of his volatile, often-controversial manager Cus D'Amato, and trainer Dan Florio, Patterson managed to win 29 of his first 30 pro fights. (The lone loss was an eight-round decision to former world light-heavyweight champion, Joey Maxim.) His thirty-first outing was a 12-round points win over Tommy ("Hurricane") Jackson in 1956 which earned Floyd a match with world light-heavyweight champion Archie Moore for the newly vacant heavyweight title, a vacuum which had occurred just six weeks before when Rocky Marciano retired as the undefeated champion.

collins and his clones are recognizable by their homosexual fixation.

I consider myself a contributor...All you do is hurl invectives at your fellow posters like a petulant four year old...granberry wrote:collins/TheOne spams boxrec 24 hours day.

Since the collins incarnation using the name The/One has been on boxrec, he has trashed EVERY thread I have started.
He inundates threads with his endless posting shilling for Ali.

Here is how The/One is considered by some others, according to recent pm's I have gotten:TheOneIsHere2008 wrote:

"The One" is the dumbest poster ever. I thought I Feel Fine, Big Bad John, etc. were insane, but "the one" is so crazy that the others look sane by comparison. His posts are so stupid that I have written replies to a few of them and then erased them because I don't want to be associated with anything he writes. What a moron that guy is.
No matter what Ali's I.Q. was, if it was 78 or whatever, it was far superior to the I.Q. of The One Is Here. That guy is proof that anyone can use a computer.

Here are real PMs I got:
Thanks Brian. What an experience that your Uncle fought in the Garden all of those years back, and it must be fantastic to have been privy to his stories regarding Dempsey and the like. It's sad that most of that generation has now passed. It's always good to have a new knowleagable poster on board. Like you I learn new things on here all the time.
Best,.....

Here is a PM I got....
"Thanks for the weekend. I had a great time, and all I can
say is you really know how to please a girl. Next time my
sisters come over we are going to come over..."
Wrong one....ooops,
this is the other PM I got.
"Granberry is a cool sounding name, the One is Here 2008
reminds me of my brother who loves Ali a little too much."

Re: Greatest Knockouts: Patterson vs. Johansson
Patterson's two revenge KO's over the Swede Johansson were
almost statements that Floyd was the better man.
An interesting trilogy, and an almost over looked treasure of
exchanges of two misunderstood heavyweight champions.

Somebody here needs to set the record straight and disabuse the gullible masses of the calumny the evil doers are trying to spread...Robinson wrote:Here is a PM I got....
