I would like to see this happen but cant see it as ricky is not going to change his game at this stage and thats presumably what a change of trainer would mean.

Don't believe Ricky would do this, but who knows.

I doubt very, very much it will be much help to him even if he does, he's simply too old to get any noticeable benefits from another trainer.

Yeah it is a bit late in the day to teach him new tricks. I would be pleased to see Floyd Snr train Khan, but think he wouldn't suit Hatton.
If Hatton has really fallen out with Graham he needs a new coach, but it depends on why they fell out.
Enzo Calzaghe would motivate him and get him into great shape, his style would suit an aggresive fighter.
But there is no star treament in South Wales, so if that is the case he better look elsewhere

Possible, the kid training his brother Lee Beard is close to Floyd Sr. Beard's step son is in America with Floyd. AS a previous poster said it is a bit late to switch. I would stick with Graham

Floyd Mayweathr Sr would be the worst choice of trainer, he had a losing record against anyone good, he speaks and acts like a street corner crack addict, he ran and held as a pro, and lost to anyone good he fought. He would be an embarrassment to Ricky and never add to his punching power, all the other so called trainers are in terrible shape, were never good punchers which Ricky needs as a trainer. The guy who was with Hurricane Carter, Dick Tiger, Ali as their sparring partners based in NY that World Boxing called one of the hardest punchers in competition is training pros and could turn it all around for Ricky. The former Ref Alan Sugar is built like him and knows how to beat Malignaggi and how to train British fighters. He is exactly like Ricky and they would hit it off in a second. Tough as they come and knows Ricky's style.
Mayweather did nothing for Delahoya, and could not do anything positive with Ricky. Takes a NY guy to beat a NY fighter, no one better than Lipton right now.

No,

just one of the many fighters who trained with him at Snoops in Poughkeepsie NY and at Marist , Ricky is one of our favorites and we wanted him to win against Mayweather, and not get outboxed or stopped by Malignaggi. Ron could do it for him definitely. Fighters come from all over the world here to train and if it wasn't for Joe Cortez and Ricky needing a bit more punching power early on he woud have done better against Floyd Jr.

Ron trains shoulder to shoulder with everyone here and he could get Ricky to stop this guy and break him down like no other. It is a real tight boxing club and we were all pulling for Ricky.

best,

I woud respectfully have to agree with the other posters who feel it is a bad choice of trainers.
I saw all of his fights and he always lost the important fights. He had no punching power and ran and held like his son, which is successful for them but not for Ricky's style. Styles make and break fights and if its "Shite" that is being talked that you can't stand, surely mate it is Floyd Sr, Roger and all but polite Jeff Mayweather who talk enough of it to fill a manure truck. Ricky needs him like the plague.
It does not take someone just from NY to beat Malignaggi but his style is very well known here as are the guys training him and a NY trainer would be an inside edge. Great trainers and nice guys like Freddie Roach or Emmanuel Steward are far past thier physical best, Freddie was a tough club fighter but could not punch and took too many shots, but is a great guy. Manny Steward was an amateur champ but never a puncher and never stayed in great shape, they lecture the fighter more than add to them and they are more commentators now.

Ricky needs to add great punching power to his arsenal, one shot power with both hands not just the left hook and he has to stop lunging in.
It takes a big puncher to teach it.

Floyd Mayweather Sr's methods are good only for his family members who speak to each other like that, his methods did not work for Delhoya and others. Time for a change when you fight different kind of fighters who can beat you. Its business and the truth is the truth.
Ricky worked too hard to blow this one, and all that baloney the Mayweather's talk or the flash of Malignaggi cannot beat a newly trained Ricky Hatton, sticking him with a jive ass talking street guy is not the answer and that ain't no shite.

Picky whoever he wants but those so called famous trainers are so over rated to the real boxing experts and if you listen to them in the corner you would know the show is over, they are overpaid, and they do not add to the fighter.

Best of luck Ricky with whomever you go with.

1. Teaching power is not hard, power is the easiest thing to learn in boxing, teachy Ricky Hatton to hit harder would not improve him, its could make him worse as he may leave himself more open and make him a slower puncher
2. You don't need an inside 'NY edge' to beat Malignaggi hes shit, you make it sound like NY fighters have unique skills, they don't and they havent produced anyone decent recently
3. Mayweather Sr has had success with Juan Guzman (whos looked better under him), Delahoya (who deveolped later success under him) and Chad Dawson. Who the hell has Lipton trained?
4. Mayweather Sr can teach defense, timing, compact punching, not leaving openings, all problems Ricky has, Lipton has no knowledge of this

Alan Sugar has worked in one way shape or form with almost every Hall of Famer in the last 45 years, including extensive sparring, training, member of camp and refereing;

Emile Griffith
Dick Tiger
Carlos Ortiz
Ruben Carter
Ali

and God knows who else, and his Referee's record is also a who's who of recent greats... Alan Sugar knows every aspect of Boxing, he's never been out of the gym for 45 years. I think his association with the HOF all-time greats speaks volumes.

Don't want to start a keyboard flame war or any kind of rowe here, especially since this is getting pretty juvenile.

In most all of Mayweather Sr's fights against any kind of top fighter he got beat badly, took a licking and never shined against anyone good.
He is extremely jaded, gutteral, and his game alone on the punch mitts is not the panacea for changing or helping Ricky.

Teaching punching power is an art and it is not done well by many so called trainers, who were not successfull fighters.
It takes a great puncher to teach it and the chap you mention was with Dick Tiger and Carter among other great punchers.
Ricky needs one shot power like Dracula needs blood so I respectfully disagree as his fights go much too long and he is taking too much punishment. The guy you are talking about is in amazing condition and truly has been with the best fighters in history in training camp and also has a good KO record.

Yes defense is important and Ricky knows what to do with defense, but he needs to learn to apply his gretest asset of endurance and aggressiveness in a new way, this guy is the best at that and teaches amazing one shot power with both hands.

I listening to interviews with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I think that speaks for itself and a beloved fighter like Ricky would flourish much better with a true boxing man who goes back a lot farther with the legends of boxing than Floyd Sr with his crass predator interviews and foul language.

I think the other chap picked up quite a bit as Ali's sparring partner, Carter, Tiger who fought in England, Carlos Ortiz and others. Let us not knock these guys anymore but let the cards fall where they may and let Ricky choose and box on.

He turns down fighter requests to train them all the time but when he picks one they win by KO, and he trains them into the kind of shape that is not often seen in boxing anymore.

His system is unique and well respected and the NY fighters are among the toughest in the world as they are in England too.
The guys Mayweather trained were already good, and his methods are very ordinary and would not help Ricky in anyway at this stage.
Being used a lot as a trainer does not make you good, it is that many people don't know where to go to get the best.
Look at Joe Cortez, he is used a lot but is the worst ref in the world especially after what he did to Ricky and letting a fighter lay bleeding on the floor unattended.

His reward, another titile fight.

Sorry mate, time for a change and the Predator is not the way to go.

1. Teaching power is not hard, power is the easiest thing to learn in boxing, teachy Ricky Hatton to hit harder would not improve him, its could make him worse as he may leave himself more open and make him a slower puncher
Answer: Punching power like a fast handed fighter like Rubin Carter would make him slower?? Sorry, you are totally wrong. When you knock someone out and are punching hard, fast and correctly, your offense is your defense. If Mayweathe knew how to teach and use that ,Ray lLeonard and others would not have destroyed him in the ring.

2. You don't need an inside 'NY edge' to beat Malignaggi hes shit, you make it sound like NY fighters have unique skills, they don't and they havent produced anyone decent recently

Answer: That post reeks of biaas, and is unrealistic, there is a definite risk of Malignaggi outboxing Ricky from the outside and he would need to be stopped and hurt not pressed wildly. That kind of statement has too much rancor in it to continue this.

3. Mayweather Sr has had success with Juan Guzman (whos looked better under him), Delahoya (who deveolped later success under him) and Chad Dawson. Who the hell has Lipton trained?
Answer: Juan Guzman, please, DLH never improved enough under Mayweather or he would have punched a lot harder V PBF. Dawson is what he is and Mayweather did not add anything special. Lets be real.

Answer: It is more who he trained with and what he did himself. The other guy has such a backround with the great fighters of legend he is a walking library of their tricks, styles, and is in amazing shape for his age. He is one of the last of the great fight teachers, and a gentleman.
He was called by World Boxing Magazine, one of the hardest puchers in competition in 1973.

4. Mayweather Sr can teach defense, timing, compact punching, not leaving openings, all problems Ricky has, Lipton has no knowledge of this
Answer: Why you know Alan Sugar? Of course he has knowlege of those things, your posts seem a bit too personal and without accurate knowledge. I saw a film of him and his timing and hand speed are amazing. He is a vicious infighter and teaches it well, without leaving any openings except the other guy laying out cold open on the canvas.

Good luck and lets be a bit nicer shall we? Cheers.

Fair enough, a lot of them do..... However, KO1 has come on and presented a well reasoned case/argument. Not one I particularly agree with.... but nonetheless, he's presented a good case. Something the majority of our one-hit-wonder posters don't do.

I would add that the greatest respect for Mr. Hatton's trainer and team is expressed by Alan Sugar,
Kelly Pavilik has a trainer who I don't believe had a tremendous amount of fight experience himself yet steered Kelly to success with loyalty, hard work and a great symbiotic relationship.

Lipton's case is quite different with a wealth of experience and hard times to go with it.
The experience Alan Sugar has is an amalgum of many things in boxing. There is a tape of a broadcast with Brian Kenny where Angelo Dundee calls into the tv station and said, "If there is a question I do not know about boxing, Alan Sugar is one of the people I ask."
Praise indeed Sir. Ron has known some of the greatest trainers like Eddie Futch, Angelo Dundee, Teddy Bentham, Jimmy Wilde who was with Carter, Al Gavin, Freddie Brown all great cornermen and the films of him boxing with the great fighters and being included in their life stories are amazing.

Mr. Lipton values all his friends in Great Britain and wishes nothing but the best for Ricky Hatton and all fighters actually. No one loves them more. He has not missed a day in the gym for decades and was the manager and chief trainer at Snoops boxing gym, the largest one in the US.
The book by Barrister Adeyinka Makinde, "Dick Tiger, The Life and Times of a Boxing Immortal," mentions Mr. Lipton quite a bit and he wrote the introduction for the book out of respect for Dick Tiger.

John Stracey the former champ is a mate of Ron's and Mr. Lipton has nothing but respect for all trainers and fighters.

Cheers
