List of boxers qualified for Beijing 2008
Re: List of boxers qualified for Beijing 2008
As mentioned in the other thread, Ismayl Sillakh has been replaced by Anastasios Berdesis of Greece at 81kg. Also, 54kg Tanzanian Emiliano Polino was dropped by his country because he's in jail in Mauritius, and has apparently been replaced by 28-year-old Thabiso Nketu of Lesotho.
One other change on the most recent AIBA list is a change at 69kg, where TUnisian Choayeb Oussassi is out and Bruno Bongongo of the CAF has taken his place. Not sure why Oussassi was dropped, or how 25-yo Bongongo got the replacement spot.

Another substitution from Africa on the way, and another change in the 69kg field. Nickson Abaka of Kenya has pulled out, apparently from a jaw injury he suffered in a regional competition. Bongongo already was called in to replace Oussassi, and at this late date they may have trouble finding a fighter who is ready to go and has a national federation willing to pay.
I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see another fighter from a country without any qualifiers - possibilities would be Seychelles, Gabon and Rwanda.

AIBA has released the final list of entrants for the 2008 games. I believe any injuries/suspensions/etc after this date will be treated as walkovers.
The last two changes were Muzaffer Bahram of Turkey replacing Anastasios Berdesis of Greece at 81kg and Precious Makina of Zambia replacing Nickson Abaka of Kenya at 69kg.

And Michael Hunter did not replace anyone in the 201+ weight class? There was some talk, if I remember correctly.....

Middleweight looks the toughest division by a mile.
