World Heavyweight Champions....from Britian!

Post by rockyrandall »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apart from Bob Fitzsimmons, Britian had to wait a long time before we had a Heavyweight Champion. However in the last 10 years or so we have been totally spoilt! Here is a list of them all and I have also put them into a ranking based on who would have beaten who had they fought at their peaks.

1/ Lennox Lewis WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO
2/ Joe Bugner WBF
3/ Frank Bruno WBC
4/ Henry Akinwande WBO
5/ Michael Bent WBO
6/ Audley Harrison WBF
7/ Herbie Hide WBOx2
8/ Johnny Nelson WBF

I know that Hide beat Bent, but Bent was damaged goods by then and his amateur career and win over a peak Tommy Morrison puts him at 4. What do you guys think? :-? :D

Nice list there Rocky.

Still kinda too early to say for Harrison yet of course.I was impressed with him last time out, his conditioning as much as anything else. Lewis seemed impressed too, and I didn't get the impression he was merely being polite.

If you do that same list in two years time, you might just find Harrison slotting in at No.2 I reckon... (possibly...)

Don't disagree with the list too much, though I think Bruno may have struggled with Akinwande??

Sorry but Britain has only had three world heavyweight champions. 2 really but at least Bruno had a proper belt.

Yea, your right Alex, it is kind of a tongue in cheek list. If in 10 years time the WBF became 'major' the list would look completely different. Does everyone agree that Bugner would beat all but Lewis?

to call any of those guys other than lewis, bruno, and fitzsimmons (who you omitted) is an insult to every fighter who ever owned or competed for the woprld heavyweight title.

any fighter can win the fake clown titles you listed.

only THREE hw champs ever, bottom line. well done to those 3 men.

Come on overhand! Its not me calling these guys champs, its the organizations! Yes, Ruby Robert was ommitted from the list but to compare his era to the modern era is near impossible, and I was talking about the last 10 years or so.
