weight differences
weight differences
i know we have touched on this subject before but i have been looking at the weight differences in fighters, and i mean the weights they have actually boxed at, not the weights they 'blow' up to between fights.
the ones that jumped to mind for me were: ...
james toney, who has fought at 157 lbs and also at 237 lbs. a difference of 80lbs which is about 5 1/2 stone !!!
scott lansdowne, who has fought at 174lbs and 268!!!! lbs, a difference of 94 lbs which is about 6 1/2 stone !!!!
but the king of them all that i have found is butterbean, he has fought at 300lbs and at 417.5 lbs, a staggering difference of 117.5 lbs which is nearly 8 1/2 stone.
these were the only 3 records i looked at, there must be plenty more, see if you can beat butterbeans 117.5 lbs !!!!!!

417.5 lbs
thats grotesque.
not quite in the same league but didn't Chris Byrd start out at 160lb, and fought up in the 220's. Can't think of any good ones to be honest..

Re: weight differences
If you're looking at % gain then Manny Pacquiao is up there. From 106 - 134.5lbs is almost 27% up.
The Butterbean example is a 39% gain but the best i can think of off the top of my head is Gilbert Martinez. He started out at 151 then boxed at HW at 237 - a 57% leap.

Re: weight differences
Guillermo Jones (unlucky to draw against Johnny Nelson) started off at welter and now campaigns as a heavyweight

Georges Carpentier.
Fought in every weight division from Flyweight to Heavyweight.
Not the biggest weight spread, but the most impressive to my mind.

Gatti. The Weigh-in and stepping between the ropes for Gamache. He did 20 pounds over night.
Guillermo Jones is the one that sticks in my mind too.
Didn't Danny go from 201 around his debut to 289 for Skelton?

Who was the Brit in the early 20th Century that did similar? from Feather to Heavy?

I was trying to remember this myself when I wrote about Carpentier, it escapes me for the moment.

Re: weight differences
Obligate,
Maybe Jones weight variances were down to drugs.
Remember he got banned straight after the Nelson fight.

Re: weight differences
I don't his actual weights, but Iran Barkley was a middleweight in his prime but fought as a heavyweight his last couple of fights. Difference has to 40-50+
