Trinidad was one of my favorite fighters of the 90s and although he was the aggressor throughout the fight I thought that De La Hoya clearly won on points. As to De La Hoya being yellow, well yellow fighters do not consistently face the best opposition as De La Hoya has done throughout his career.

Has DLH ever ducked anybody...He beat seventeen world champions...He has five losses because he wants to test himself against the very best...

If the poster that said Oscar DeLaHoya is "yellow" was half the man The Golden Boy is he would be twice the man he is now...

I don't know of anyone that De La Hoya has ducked! He has fought the very best and fought super tough fighters that other champions ducked...such as Ike Quartey. When De La Hoya fought Quartey there was no other top welterweight that wanted anything to do with Quartey and they hadn't for a pretty good time!

Don't expect the poster who said Oscar was "yellow" to respond...He is renowned for his slam and run tactics....

I know there's at least one other guy on here that agrees with me, but after 8 rds I had it 78-75 DeLaHoya. Then Trinidad got the last 4, and the fight on my scorecard 115-114. I called in on a sportstalk program that night and the moderator was also of the opinion that Oscar blew it in the final 3rd of the fight with his total lack of aggression. And to show my I'm not biased against DeLaHoya, I had him beating Quartey, Whitaker (could stand to watch it again though) and Mosley in the second fight.

Trinidad v DeLaHoya may have been the biggest let down in boxing history.

i agree with the last sentence for sure. i had the fight 116-112 for de la hoya. i thought he won easy but the fight was so pitiful, i almost didn't care that de la hoya had been jobbed. with all the hype that was involved, it was probably the worst fight i've ever seen.

The level of the fight was far below that of a championship level fight in that weight class of earlier years.

In earlier, more legitimate times of boxing, De La Hoya would have had his purse held up.

A disgusting exhibition for two fighters supposed to be the best of their time.

I argue with people all the time about this fight because I score the fight in Trinidad’s favor. DLH ran in the championship rounds and to me that was a disgrace. I could tell you with all honesty that if Trinidad was the one who did that I would have criticized him just the same.

I thought it could've possibly been a draw, but I don't think Tito did quite enough to take it, despite his late rally.

Still, the fight cast dispersions on both fighters IMO. Tito was made to look amateurish throughout the fight, while DeLaHoya looked like the classier fighter throughout, but fell apart in the late rounds and allowed the fight to be much too close for comfort. A fighter of his purported caliber should have been able to close the show in a situation like that.

I saw De La Hoya winning the fight, but BOTH fighters fought like PUSSYS...For all the hype and the hoopla, it was one of the worst fights ever. That was the BEGINNING of boxing's decline for the beginning of the 2000s decade.

None of the two are fighters that I could consider ranked in the top 100 greatest fighters pound per pound of all-time.

Anyone who thinks the DeLa Hoya-Trinidad "fight" was a fight,

much less a championship level fight,

doesn't know what boxing is.

I had it 115-113 for De la Hoya. Usually when a fight is that close I can see why someone else might have it for the other guy. However, in this fight, almost all of the rounds were easy to score. You really can't legitimately come up with 7 rounds that you could score for Trinidad to give him the win. It's a stretch that you could even give him 6.

Gil Clancy (who was a good trainer) deserves some criticism for this fight. He told De la Hoya to take it easy in the last few rounds, thinking like most of us that De La hoya was way ahead. However, in boxing you never know how 3 judges have been scoring a fight.

Btw-Aren't both of these guys still considered active fighters? :D
Should this be on the elite "Boxers Of The Past" Forum?

I thought DLH won but he didn't close the show. IMO he proved himself the better boxer but I wouldn't argue against the verdict because his actions were pretty poor... Win 7 rounds and run...

He only really had to make those last rounds a little more competitive, just to put make the rounds difficult to score. I think he gave Trinidad too much respect.

7-5 Oscar.

NO WAY IN HELL Tito won 7 rounds. Being INCREDIBLY generous you could have it a draw.
