Anyone think Hatton could have done Cotto now?

Post by Goz »

Just curious as to peoples thoughts?

In light of Cotto subcuming to an opponent that kept his foot fully on the gas in his face for as long as it took, could Hatton have done the same - kept up the high tempo and taken him out?

I ask because since the PBF defeat many were dismissive of Hatton's chances against Cotto and some even spoke of Cotto blasting Hatton out in 5 rounds.

I always felt the fight was not a foregone conclusion and many were writing Hatton off of the back of the PBF defeat - has anyone changed their mind after Margarito showed Cotto was not Superman?

I've always thought that Hatton is much better suited to fighting Cotto than he ever was Mayweather. Despite this, Hatton's main problem is his lack of clout at Welterweight. This wouldn't be any different against Cotto. Regardless of what Hatton says, he isn't and never will be comfortable at that weight - it gives opponents who couldn't touch him at Light Welter a leveler. I'd say Cotto by decision.

Cotto looks a different proposition since he moved up....He looked fragile at LWeltr...a couple of years ago i would of made Hatton a slight favorite.

Hatton doesn't have Margarito's jab and wouldn't take the shots he did.

No, not now but i'd have given Hatton a good chance against the version of Cotto who fought Torres, Branco and Malignaggi.

Not a chance. I wouldn't even have backed Hatton at light welter and at welter he'd get beaten up.

Cotto would be too fast for Hatton and has decent counter ability.

Absolutely no chance.

Imagine what a one sided beating Hatton would have got from Margarito. We're talking about a different level here, unfortunately.

Is this a serious question?

Cotto KO 1,2 or 3 Hatton. Wouldnt even be worth the PPV price unless the undercard was briliant

The reason why Hatton would lose to Margarito is the same reason why Kelly Pavlik would lose to David Haye. We ain't talking about a different level here, we are simply talking about a huge size difference.

BOTH are top level operators.

The best we see of Hatton at Light Welter would have beat the best we saw of Cotto at Light Welter.
Right now, Cotto would beat Hatton. Too big and strong for him. Hatton is not a welterweight and is past his best.

Yeah although Hatton took big shots to get to Tszyu, they were single shots plus Tszyu isn't very good at fighting on the back foot. Cotto landed plenty of big hard single shots and combos on Margarito but, whilst Hatton has the better footwork to get close to Cotto early, I don't think he could have taken anything like the punishment that came back.

I dont think Hatton has much of a chance at welterweight - At light welter he would have.

Down at light welter, when Cotto was a corpse at the weight, and when Hatton was at his peak, I think Hatton could maybe have made an impact on Cotto. Cotto doesn't have a great engine now, in his prime at 27 or 28. He certainly didn't have a great engine when he was trading knockdowns with Torres.

At welter, Ricky gets knocked into the middle of next week.

Agree with this entirely, one of the few logical posts on this thread :D
