How would Brian Magee fair against Danny Green???

Post by The Hawk »

This is a fight that could happen in the future with the divison opened up at 168 pounds and Calzaghe moving up. We have seen Danny Green in with some good names at Super Middleweight and Magee is still to meet Greens standard of 168 pound fighters. If they met this year who would win and is Brain Magee really the future at Super Middleweight if Calzaghe is also out of the picture??

I don't know, for me there is something just missing in Magee for me. He hasn't been pushed quickly and should be one of the bigger players for Hearn now. I don't know if they know something. He hasn't faught in world class yet.

I like the looks of this Green, although I hear he dissapointed last time.

Green KO 8.

Sorry thinking of the wrong guy but his record looks nothing special what would make you think he could fair against Green.

Yes we still badly need Magee to step it up in class, hes a good boxer but there is nothing to suggest he can be a solid world champion. Danny Green for his stage in his career has done alot more and looks to have one of the brightest futures at Super Middleweight. I heard his last fight he won every round, but he took too much out of himself going a hard pace at 12 rounds.

A Robin Reid fight next would tell us a thing or two about Magee, its open for both fighters to win. If a good Robin Reid turns up, Magee could get found out. I think a lot would depend on Reids approach. Any thoughts??

I saw Green fight in his last fight live and he won every round easily, After the fight he had to be put on an IV drip as he was severly dehydrated and apparently sick. I am going out on a limb here but i think he may be cutting to much weight for 168 and might be better to move up to 175.
I haven't seen Magee fight but anyone at 168 is going to have big problems with Green who has one punch KO power and can also box or brawl.

I think Reidy is going to be very motivated for this one, as this is his big chance to get back to a world title, he's more experienced than Magee, and despite not being that active of late, looked sharp in the extreme early on against Ottke, before Tillerman stuck his oar in and fucked it up for him.

Reid can coast at times and allow fights to slip away from him, but is probably the best guy that Magee has faced. If Reid turns in a top notch performance I think he has the skills and punchpower to beat him.

I've nothing against Magee, but I really would like to see Reid win, I feel he's been avoided and a bit hard done by over the years, his career really went downhill after the Calzaghe fight, but on his best night he is more than a match for most of the men in the division

I agree that there is something missing with Magee, he has good skills and a fantastic amateur career behind him but he lacks that killer instinct, maybe we are still holding the Barbosa fight against him. Robin Reid does have a tendency to coast during fights which could cost him, he likes to pose and sit back and admire his work but he does have decent power and good rounded skills, let's hope he is allowed to punch this time :D As for the Green fight i agree with Ben when he says his future lies up at Light Heavyweight, that is not necessarily a bad thing though, Green V Briggs anyone?

Reid is one of my favourite fighters. He has seriously underated power, that is one big right hand if he connects. He showed he still can bang when he floored Ottke, and that shot didn't even land flush, although needless to say there was NO replay on german TV and so everyone was cheated into believing Ottke 'slipped'.

I think Reid would still beat both Green and Magee. Reid has got a great chin, good skills, big right hand and good ring smarts. However if he was to lose to either it would be because of his low workrate.

As for Magee and green, well, it would arguably be the biggest test yet for Green, magee imo brings more to the table than the ordinary Eric Lucas or the pedestrian fraud markus beyer. He's youngish, will be hungry and up for it, and has decent skills with some pop. i also get a feeling he's tough, although that hasn't altogether been tested yet

Stu, I agree with you about Magee totally. he doesn't lift my frock when I've seen him. Solid yes but long reigning world champion, I would be surprised.

By the way as a moderator it's about time you learned how to spell 'fought' properly, you've been spelling it 'faught' for as long as I've been posting here!!

I think Green would be just too strong for the Irishman. I've only seen the Beyer fight, but he looked a monster.
Magee has class, but we really don't know how good he is at the moment. Hard to forget the way he ducked out of the Barbosa(?) fight too.

Green could move to light heavy like Ben suggested; he's got the build for it. Sounded like he was completely out of it after his last fight: apologised for losing after he'd won every round!

I'd love to see a Calzaghe fight in the future.

It seems many have not forgotten when Magee pulled out against Barbosa.

I think Reid is still a very live fighter, he beat Ottke and if he was allowed to punch :-? he would have made a better statement.

Its hard to see Reid facing Magee any time soon. Do you think Matchroom will risk Magee in the coming months against him, or is it just hype?

The Cherifi fight I feel was over hyped. It was a good performace, but in reality it was not as good as it was made out to be. After all Cherifi has seen better days at Middleweight and lost his French title the fight after.

On a better note, good to see Magee going to New York to train. Something a lot more British fighters should do now and then as part of their training and he does have a style which can create problems.

Any thoughts on why Magee did not face Beyer?

If he did face him, he could have been done over in a verdict or if he won, it may have come too quickly as he did not have the fights behind him to hold onto the title.

After all Danny Green is the interm holder and would have had the right to face him. May have been in their thoughts for the long term and also it would be more damage to his stock if he had of won the title quickly and lost it quickly. It seems to have been the correct move.

I agree with many that Green looks a solid and strong fighter. Id love to see him against Calzaghe and that would be a great fight in the future even at 175. Both are strong fighters and the extra weight of 7 pound would help both I feel. Interesting to see what path Green will take.

With Magees amateur background and a win over Jeff Lacy in the amateurs, any thoughts on Magee Vs Lacy in the professional ranks?

Id like to see that happen
