Well Barrett deserved it no question. Guinn looked like he didn't care - what I would call the Michael Grant expression.

I thought Audley was incredibly modest afterwards and very realistic especially when talking about increasing his level of competition. Obviously comes from increased confidence.

Rarely seen anyone shut down so badly as Guinn (mentally). He looked like he was going to cry at one point.

Guinn's a complicated fella, the USA's version of Danny Williams. Looks great in cameos, but then falls to sleep. They had to really jolt him into action during the Michael Grant fight and I'd seen another fight of his where his corner were pleading for him to let his punches go. To be honest, he's never impressed me that greatly. Just another solid pro really, nothing else.

Too small and one-paced to get to the top is my overall summary of how good Guinn is.

Well done to Monte Barrett though. Rematch with Mesi would be an interesting fight.

He mentioned how all of the "prospects" have been exposed eg, Guinn and Mesi etc and therefore how the division is wide open.

Inverdale then asked him nicely "Without meaning to put you down why couldn't you step in with someone like David Tua now?"

His reply was that he lacked the experience and he needs to tighten up on a few things. Audley went on to say how Guinn (and someone else) has been a pro since 1996 and so are four years ahead of him. He stated how he is progressing at a faster rate and is now only a year behind them.

He also mentioned how he liked Ricky Hatton etc.

Think that was most of it!

It was a very good interview indeed.

John asked Audley, "Are you going up in peoples estimation, almost by default?"

Audley said yes. He explained how in most peoples eyes, he's at the top of the British Tree without fighting any British fighter of note. He said the same thing is happening in the world scene. with Mesi showing his lack of class and of course the Guinn fight. He's of course happy to be in this position.

He also said, the problem he has with fighting someone of Mesi class right now is not beating him, but who he fights after that. He stated that if he beats Mesi, (let's say 3rd tier heavy) he has to then face 2nd tier heavy (Tua etc) for which he is not ready (which was when John asked the Tua question, as MatchFixer explained). He reminded John that he has not yet gone anywhere near the championship rounds. He also said that he is not prepared to fight a bigger name (say Mesi), then climb down the tree for more "learning" fights, he want continuous forward progression.

Also, he stated that his main problem is, (due to age), the fact that he can't afford to lose a fight. He is aware of the momentum of boxing hype, and the way a loss can halt it. He thinks a single loss will put him back 2/3 years, which he simply can't afford. By this reason he explained his caution in moving too fast in career terms.

John said the next Audley fight is "live live" on the BBC.
Audley said his next opponent will be confirmed withing the fortnight.

Audley didn't talk so much about what he has achieved (World champ don't you know), or what he will achieve, but rather he talked honestly about where he is now, and the steps and path he will take to get to the next level. In that sense, it was an Excellent interview for him. He came accross well.

thanks guys missed all that was travelling back from Manc, I like Big Aud have done for some time, just wasnt sure when he first turned pro and seemd to be spedning too much time basking in the glory of his Olympic success, but over the past 18 months he seems to have knuckled down and is improving all the time.
The problem that he may have is that rounds bring experience, but who at the level is fighting at is gonna bring rounds. I mean he has to step it up but none of the Brit fighters will fight him as signed up with Warren.
Williams is far too dangerous a fight at this stage though maybe down the line...so at some point he is gonna have to take some risks somewhere....its bit of a chicken and egg situation . I suppose he will slowly step it up against European opposition then make the big jump if successful to someone like mesi then look at going for a proper title?
Either way Ill shout for him and keep watching his progress with intrigue..

I was very impressed with how big Aud came across in that interview. And that's taking into account the fact that I was distracted for a few minutes after the fiancee pointed out how discustingly horrible his clothes were. Really, it was like a car crash: you're repulsed but you can't look away.

I'm looking forward to the announcement particularly, as I'll hopefully being going up to cheer Scott Dann on if the English title fight gets made.

Audley showed that he knows what he is doing....indeed he has quite a time ahead of him negotiating his next fights, because almost everyone he fights from now on is going to be more experienced and at least a 3rd tier heavyweight.

Audley needs a couple of 10 rounders under his belt, so someone tough and durable is needed fast.

Guinn looked awful in that fight. I have a feeling he never really recovered from being hurt in the 4th, he just looked dazed and sulky, and really did very little from then on in.

Barett is nothing special, he has his chin way up in the air, and I think Audley once he's confortable with the 12 round distance would beat him, he's easy to hit and stands quite square on, nothing special.

Guinn, well, not sure what to make of him now...
