Yes, it was a disgraceful decision. I had the visitor up by 4 points at the end for this IBO alphabet soup title. After the hometown result, all I can assume that IBO = Internationals Bugger Off!

Dib was was battered and bleeding and Johnny Lewis pulled the old trick numerous times towards the end of the fight by having loose taping around Dib's gloves, causing the fight to be halted and giving Billy Boy more time to recover while the retaping took place. Poor show Johnny!

Also the ref tended to ignore Dib's clinching and holding and mostly admonished the visitor. As for the judges, fair go boys, your scorecards were a "Barry"! Hope you didn't forget to collect your white canes when you left the building.

But as it was stated on the night, boxing is not like cricket (where the team who scores the most runs wins) but boxing is a business and one can only assume that our visitor would not be the right type to promote in the USA and does not have the management backing that Billy has.

I left the pub after this fight in disgust. Missed Mundine being knocked down as a result

I've Gotta say i totally disagree, Morali won the Last 4-5 rounds, but Dib had him for the first 7 rounds except the KO in round 3, but maybe the judges agreed with myself and the commentry in that round that Dib scored a ko that was regarded a slip. I think Morali was lucky not to have a point taken off him for constant headlocks and pushing down on Dibs neck.

Ageed that Dib got beaten in the late rounds, but he'd done enough to controll the fight in early and middle rounds.

Thats why you have a guy like Jonny Lewis in your Corner.
Commentry can persuade what your watching, especially when your full of piss in a pub.

Your insight astonds me. Indeed i was at the pub, and I was full, but only about 1/4 full, so I could still focus on th tv. Unfortunately your unstanding of the pub i watched it at also meant that you didn't realise I coudn't here the commentary. I only knew the Barry and Briggs were calling it because their 'busted bucket' heads kept popping up between fights.

As for your comments, the judges may have given Billy credit for a KD when Marali slipped, but it would have been poor judging. The replay revealed that the punch was a glancer at best, no real mustard behind it. With regards to the holding and pulling, there is no question Marali did the bulk of that, but (correct me if I'm wrong Benk) the judges are not at liberty to deduct points for fouls, that is the job of the ref' alone. That being said, there were indeed early rounds to dib, but not all of them. It would take a game man to believe that. Also I find it hard to believe he won any of the last 4-5 rounds.

The score cards read 116-114, 116-112 and 114-113 all for Dib. This must include a 10-8 to Marali. That means that two judges believed that Dib won or drew 9 rounds (having definately lost 1). I would love to see a copy of the cards.

Houndog. Mate I was sober. Hadn't had a beer, just knocked off work. Was going for Dib as any Aussie would, but mate surely the best score card Dib couldve hoped for was a 3 point loss. Briggsy summed it up when he was saying it's a business first a sport second....as soon as he was saying that I think most of us knew which way it was going to go. I wonder how much exposure our boxing gets in the USA. Many more decisions like this and they will be comparing us to some of those European countries....

Come off it, Ive watched the fight twice now and the second time it was more clearly a win for Morili. Dib won his share of the first 6-7 rounds but the fight was even going into the later rounds and the African clearly pulled away. I would like to here your RBR and i will compare with mine.

The IBO and WBF are a stain on our sport in Austarlia. These fighters from overseas deserve an even playing field as they trained just as hard as our guys for the fight.
Im training to be a judge and i will be scoring it straight down the line in every fight. It shits me but when i talk to the average Joe who only sees PPV like this and think the whole sport is corrupt when actually there are a lot of honest people involved.

ben k, good luck in becoming judge, sincerely. I cant give you a RBR, but i can tell you this i dont think the african won any of the first 7 rounds, with the exception of the third round ko. He did win the last 4 out of 5 rounds.

Look we all have seen our fair share of bad decisons in the past, mostly from Australia' point of view this is one that could of went either way, we, Australia got the nod be glad, not sad.

Judges were from Thailand, and one from Australia, i agree with them.
I dont think this fight is going to send a message to the world that you cant win in Australia unless you Knock your opponent out.
Every person that has posted here has the scores within a 3 point margin or less, and people are carrying on as if it was the biggest farce Australian boxing has seen.

Nelson v Fenech 1
Green v Bayer 1
Darchinyan v Gorres

These are Australian fights worst decisions.

But i guess it's all in the eye' of the beholder.

I agree them fights were bad decisions but last night every one in that arena new who won and it wasnt Dib. I like Dib as a fighter and its good to support locals.
3 Points isnt a big issue but that means 2 judges were 6 points out thats a big issue. If the judging was all 114-113 either way i wouldnt have such an issue but i havnt seen one person except you say he deserved the win. It hard to see how he could have won 9 rounds in that fight but that is exactly what he did in there eyes.

I had to driver around to find a place that was showing the fight (4 RSL + 2 Pups) thank goodness for the sportsbar in parra....Anyway i had Dib winning 5 rounds max.
I think he could have won this fight easy if he had stuck with going for the body instead of trying to go head to head with the stronger Afro in the later rounds.
You people here have to admit Dib looked like he was on a winning run with the bodyshot fightplan before the head hunting came out.

I watched this fight live. I was cheering for Dib and although I am not a boxing expert I thought it was disgusting when he was given the win. The whole crowd went silent in disbelief. What a joke!

thanks for the post. i reckon this sums it up. There is nothing like the reaction of a live crowd to judge a fight.

The judges cant score a knockdown unless the referee counts it, They could score a 10-8 round if they think it was a dominant round. The Judges also cant take off points for any holding etc unless instructed to by the referee.

thats right...and also, to give a 10-8 round when there was no knockdown then it would have to have been 3 minutes of pure ownage. its quite rare i think to see 10-8 rounds where theres been no knockdown.

judges get more money than the african?

Post by patron »

the billy dib verdict was another nail in a great sports coffi n ,if the african corner had heard briggsbetween round 10-11 they would not have bothered to go out for another round, boxing in australia -nsw- is controlled by the promoters,i should say the deciesions, that was a disgrace ,the african was robbed ,mark raymond,a complete arselicker in my mind bagged barry miechels on saturdays radio, and the worlds greatest conditioner said he told dibs in the eigth round that he was ahead,he also said he didn,t need to win the last round, thank christ he was never in my corner as i lost enough as it was,but barring a ko lewis knew the result, and the old tape trick is another pink feather in johnnys cap all the best

I couldnt agree more, It was a joke and how the judges had him winning 9 rounds amazes me. I gave him around 4 at best there was 1 or 2 close but with the Knockdown Dib lost in my eyes by 3 rounds. :TU:

What really irrates me is the average watcher who will come down to the pub to watch the Mundine fight and never see's any other fights thinks that all boxing is like this.
