You're on a roll. Going to paint Jose Alfredo in a little while. I'll give him and Gato's painting(I did two more of Gato)to the Cultural Center when I go to Michoacan Saturday. Also have one of Vicente.

Except, an Ali fanatic would reply that Louis lost his four year voluntarily by joining the Army, and he never lost his boxing license; Ali was stripped of his crown and boxing license.

Ring Magazine still listed Clay(they never called him Ali)as the Heavyweight Champ during his 3 year exile.

You're getting me very emotional. My wife is very happy and excited that we're going to Jiquilpan. My granddaughter and grandson will be going also. They have many friends there. It's like they've lived there all their lives. I will die there.

I remember been at the Olympic that night in 1955 when Peacock ko Raul "Raton" Macias,
great win for Peacock after losing to Macias in Mexico, not only did he ko Macias,
he also broke his jaw. it was a great action fight as long as it lasted.

Good point, Bennie. Ali made a choice, and like everybody else in this world, choices come with consequences. I know three years of activity cost Ali a lot of money, however, it saved him from an earlier demise. Ali always stayed in shape, boxing exhibitions, training, etc. during his hiatus from boxing. Frank, as far as lightweights go, in your opinion, where does Carlos Ortiz fit in? especially when you compare him with Ike Williams and Roberto Duran, and, if Mando Ramos had kept himself clean how do you think he would have done against Duran? At Mando's Memorial service, watching the fight videos, I was amazed at how quick Mando was and how quick he got that counter right hand in, against almost everyone. Duran was underrated as a counter puncher but he really was good.

I think Williams and Duran were the two best lightweights I seen fight live, Ortiz was a great fighter and Mando could have been great, but I think both would have lost to Williams and Duran, now how great could have Mando been? on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 been the best, I think Mando could have been an 8.

I think there is a side to Ali,especially now that it's been almost 30 years since he fought,that he has become more like Joe Louis. Yeah he's a Muslim,but he ain't no terrorist. He's very ill.. I remember when Iran had our hostages 25 years ago. He wanted to exchange himself for their release. There's a lot of young people out there that don't even know who he is. A guy who personafied the young generation is now unknown to the current group of teenagers.

I remember after the 3rd Norton fight at Yankee Stadium. It was a controversial decision. They had a panel of boxing experts score the rerun of the fight. I remember there were 6 panelists. They all gave Norton the decision except Joe Louis. I think Louis and Ali became closer at the end of Ali's career. I was at Caesar's Palace .Louis was a greeter at the entrance. I asked him who the best fighter was out there. He answered "Ali". It was at the end of Ali's career. I think Joe's answer had more to it than just fighting.Two guys with opposite personalities. One served his country. The other did not. One was a "ham" in front of a camera. The other "froze up." So why did they finally make peace and ,at least,respect each other? Look at Ali in Africa during the pre fight with Foreman. Ask anyone down on their luck, if Joe Louis didn't reach into his wallet.

There lies the answer.

That's a pretty fair assessment. Frank, It's a shame he never reached his full potential.
