Next Season - what are ppl looking forward to?
Next Season - what are ppl looking forward to?
After a slow August, what are ppl most looking forward to from British boxing for the rest of the year?
Here's my picks:
Carl Froch's world title fight vs Pascal.
John Murray's 1st British title defence.
Jamie Moore's EBU title crack vs Baysangurov (potential classic).
Jon Thaxton's EBU title fight vs Melero.
David Haye's fight with a top 10 heavyweight.
Hayemaker Promotions - let's see the promised competitive cards & development of prospects like Groves, Maguire, and John Watson.
Darren Barker vs a quality Aussie/Canadian, OR a British title fight.
Paul Truscott's next Commonwealth featherweight title defence.
David Dolan campaigning as a cruiserweight, maybe targeting a domestic belt.
Any good prospects making progress, such as Manchester's Martin Murray.
Doesn't have to be a long list. Can be as many - or as few - fight/fighters as you want...

@ Autobarn - Everything you're looking forward to, I am too. I'm also looking forward to any Amir Khan fight because I find them exciting. If you can count Duddy in on the British side, I'm looking forward to him challenging for a Light Middleweight World title, if that goes ahead.

Autobarn / Asterix,
I think you are both gonna be disappointed at LM.
Both fights you speak about are in grave doubt.

You saying Moore-Baysangurov is now in grave doubt? Anything we should know? I've seen that Vern Phillips is no longer lining up Duddy.twenty six wrote:Autobarn / Asterix,

Michael Hunter's recently announced comeback. I think he still has something left.
Re: Next Season - what are ppl looking forward to?
Junior Witter winning back the world title
When Calzaghe's wrist is better his amazing matchup vs Roy Jones Jr
Naz's anual comback

Calzaghe v RJJ at MSG. Haye's HW fight and Jamie's next fight (I live in hope too, especially as it'll be the biggest BoxRec meet-up of all time).
I live in small hope of Rhodes v Small in September.

Calzaghe, Froch, Haye, Khan and Hatton, the biggest names and will have the biggest fights
Other than Khan actually! But I like watching him, his vunerability makes him damn exciting

Pretty much everything listed in this thread aswell as the development of Martin Lindsay, Andrew Murray, Stephen Haughian, Paulie Hyland, Andy Lee. John Duddy and Bernard Dunne's fights and also Darren Sutherland turning pro.
Not to mention the 3 Cubans in Ireland that Gary Hyde has signed who are all World Junior Champions.

I'll be interested to how Cotto bounces back after suffering his first loss to Margarito? After sufficient rest & recovery, I hope Miguel comes back a better boxer for the defeat. There's no shame whatsoever in losing to Margarito. I'd like to see a rematch, because its evident that Cotto is the better technician & I reckon he could still beat Antonio.
Lesser fighters have come back than Cotto, so I hope he does.
It'll be interesting to see if Pacquiao wins yet another title at another weight category? Its unbelieveable to think Manny started pro as a Flyweight. He must have really struggled to make 112lbs!
Obviously, Haye at HW is what most of us will be interested in. I hope Haye is successful, but after all the talk, he better be. Haye should just concentrate on getting a couple of wins under his belt at HW, then concentrate on Wladamir.
Seeing all the prospects in Beijing do well (hopefully) would be a great highlight. If all of them get a medal, I wonder if boxing would have more medals than other sports?

Have to say, regarding big fights, I'm much more interested in Moore v Baysangurov (if it's happening) and Froch v Pascal. I'm not interested in Hatton and Calzaghe in the slightest.
Arthur v Cook could be ok, but I think both are stiff, basic body punchers; though neither fighter particularly interests me, the fight could be fierce.

Re: Next Season - what are ppl looking forward to?
Really eager to see the development of Andrew Murray, the Irish lightweight/light welterweight champ. Well balanced, sharp, accurate. Good balance, as well. By the way, did anyone televised his fight with McDonagh?
Re: Next Season - what are ppl looking forward to?
Be interesting to see how our guys at Super Feather get on. A year ago I'd have said that Arthur and Mitchell are a level below the very best. However, with Manny, Guzman, Marquez et al moving up, there could be a chance to get a "big 3" world title against the likes of Fana.
It would be good to see Francis, Woods and "the bullshitter" all give it one final go.
