Ojay Abrahams 100th fight result discussion SPOILER!

Post by whicker »

I put the spoiler tag in the title on the off chance it weas being shown later on TV or something.

Anyway, in his 100th fight, booked like it was going to be a win, he ended up being DQed in the first round! Did anyone see it- what happened there?
Also in the main event Joey Vegas got what looks like an upset stoppage win.

Thats a shame, he deserves better than that, but if he got himself disqualified it is down to him, I don't know what happened though.
He has always been a bit of a loose cannon though, perhaps he got himself too hyped up

Very disappointing for Ojay.. His opponent squared up to him after the bell went and Ojay threw a punch!! Everyone that was there was upset as it should never have been a disqualification, a point deduction at the most!

Oh well, at least he got his 100!

Well done Ojay for hitting the milestone, where many thought you would be stuck on 99 forever!

Flip me. As soon as i saw the Rd1 DQ i knew Ojay had been up to his old tricks again. Remember him as a bit of a loose canon.

There was a good clear gap between the bell ringing for the end of the round and Ojay throwing his punch, the referee was right to DQ him. Its Billy Graham I fell sorry for, what a crappy ending.

i have no sympathy, someone who has 'masqueraded' as an opponent for at least 6 years has been lorded by you lot for reaching this milestone. im not interested in opponents who do not try.

Ojay got the publicity and hype he deserved, i truely believe that and so do all those who are not malicious, envious and bad minded people.

Rhino, u seriously have a problem with Ojay.. I recall your last posts about him in which the moderators had to remove due to defamatory comments.. What is it with u? What exactly is your beef with him? Let me ask you a question... Do you work for spts ntwk?

noooooooo...of course i dont, im not against ojay at all, my feelings are geared towards 'fighters' (and i use the term loosely) who enter the ring with no intention of winning, this is totally against the meaning of the word 'match' is what a boxing bout should be. i am my own person who makes his own judgements on life, i have voiced my opinions against peter buckley too. Im not interested in these people saving shows, they do not try, that is the problem !!

i have said it before and ill say it again, give me the smith brothers anytime, they go in there, they try to win, they show heart, they take their lumps and pick up their pay cheque, that is what a real pro does.

i have respect for any fighter who treads the canvas, who goes in with potential and ex world champions, i just dont have respect for people who do not try to win, to me they are cheating the paying public who want to see a 'match'. its just my gut feeling on it, i dont hide behind a SN keyboard, and if i like relatively even boxing matches, why on earth would i work for SN !! :P

i spoke to ojay once in my life, not too long after his performance against marlon hayes, i think it was in cardiff. ojay was winning the fight, against the unbeaten yank, ojay dropped the yank, then ojay developed a 'mystery' hand injury while well in control of the fight. i asked ojay about this afterwards and he smiled, told me that 'sometimes a fighter has to take the back door, to ensure that they continue to get work' ....... so, take from that what you want, ojays words not mine. incidentally it was a SN show !!

in a nutshell, if a fighter does not try to win, i aint interested, be it 5 fights or 500 !! 'slick' miller was a good pro, as was mal rice, they got hammered most months, but occasionally, their right hand did the business and he 'KO'd' prospects. that to me is a true journeyman !!.. christ, even tony booth tries to win occasionally!!

i dare say that most people on this forum, if they are honest, will probably agree with me.

Ojay looked like he had been hurt just before the bell. Good, decisive refereeing by ex-pro Bob Williams.

RHINO, IF YOU THINK OJAY DOESN'T FIGHT TO WIN, WHY DIDN'T HE TAKE THE FIGHT SN MADE FOR HIM LAST YEAR FOR HIS 100 AGAINST KERRY HOPE? I TELL YOU WHY, BECAUSE HE WANTED A FAIR MATCH WITH A GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING... FLOORS YOUR ARGUEMENT DOESN'T IT?

There have been a few upsets by underdogs in recent times though on SN shows.

Crolla and Derry Mathews spring to mind.

I'd like to think all the underdogs are legit and give their all. But i suppose their are a few who roll over as to keep the bookings coming in.

If your a nobody and start suddenly beating prospects, promoters will think 'sod booking him!" and then the fella is no longer getting work in.

But in saying that, you might get a few journey men who actually believe in their own mind's that they really are quite good and simply find excuses as to why they lost.

I think it goes on a lot more in the UK than in the States. I remember John O'donnel getting knocked out on the Mayweather v De La Hoya undercard in 2 rounds and he had talent to burn.

At the end of the day, like Rhino points out - there are some that want to win and there are the others that are the total opposite.

well, i assure you he did say it to me, some random bird i was with at the time listened with interest too, it was actually in the main shopping street in cardiff. and as for ojay trying to win, do you really believe he does (or did) .. yes i can understand him wanting to win, but since the humphrey fight i have never really seen him use the undoubted talent he posesses. if you believ he tries to win then so be it, but i have to question your boxing knowledge or your eyesight....you take your pick which one !!

Scrap,
OJ will talk to anyone, that's true.
At the weigh in when he fought Rhodes he was giving it the full treatment to me about Rhodes was shite, gonna stand him on his head etc and wouldn't let me get a word in edgeways.
When I finally explained who I was, he laughed his tits off.
I dont believe however that what Rhino is saying is accurate - I think it was around that time he was knocking about with Spud which says it all
Anyway he finished the night in style by trying to kick Brendan in the mush through the ropes.
Quality - a real character.
