Can Any Australian fighter surpass Mundine in the future?

Post by aussieboxafan »

I mean we here all this talk about Kickett, Geale and Dib.

But lets be realistic here.

I haven't seen much of Geale.

Dib lacks power.

And Kickett is better than Dib but also lacks that power to make him a world beater.

Is there anyone who could be better than Mundine in the next few years?

Kickett and Geale have the potential. Katsidis would already be close, Darchinyan as well. Don't forget Porky, a fighter who continues to improve. There is also Bika who is yet to peak IMO.

Katsidis is already our best fighter, He has shown he wants to fight the best out there and a close loss to Casamayor is better than anything Mundine has done in the sport.

there is little chance that Bika will ever be more popular then choc.Bika is just a tough fighter with very little boxing skill.

If Rocky could get some main stream coverage and support he would already be as popular as choc.

but i feel that Geale, Kickett and Zappa are the future faces of oz boxing.

just my opinion

I agree Huricn. Geale Kickett and Zappa are all on the way up. There is also Hatwell and Forsyth over here in Perth that have great potential, there early on in their careers but both have really good skills .

Id say that Katsidis is far more known world wide though after his win over Earl in england and his war with Casamayor in the states.

Please elaborate, because this is the way im seeing things here. I look at the global scene.

Katsidis = Turning into a journeyman potentially. Diaz will likely win a UD. Threw away the fight against Casamayor by going for the knockout but thats how he fights.

Kickett = Natural talent and ability. But i can't see the power being there?

Geale = Haven't seen enough of him to be honest.

Vic = I don't really classify him as an Australian. More Armenian to me. No offence, but i can't understand him. Taking nothing away from Vic, hes fantastic.

Dib= Yet to be convinced.

World title talk? Even though Mundine has won 2 vacant world titles. I mean Katsidis has won an interim? Which isn't as good as a vacant. ? Im looking at things on a global scale.

I don't mean to be offensive, i will listen to your views and be corrected.

Cheers

I tend to disagree here.

But im reserving judgement after Katsidis next fight.

I want to see him win.

But i can't, Diaz has all the answers.

E.G Katsidis best win? Graham Earl? I think Green, Echolls and Soliman sadly surpass that.

But you do have merit.

Im sorry but fighting in the states and going ten rounds with Casamayor and leading the fight at the stoppage is far better than winning ten times against Soliman or Green or anyone else that Mundine has fought, Regardless of the outcome of Katsidis next fight he is in a diffrent class know to Mundine who is stalling his career in Australia while the big fights overseas are passing him by.

Fighting Casamayor who is an olympic gold medalist and has wins over some of the best 130-135 pounders in the last 10 years, then taking on Diaz who before his last shock defeat was the man at 135 and you call him a Journeyman I find it hard to take you seriously.

After Mundine lost to Kessler and Siaca  and Ottke who were his next opponents That will tell you where Mundine is at as a boxer and fighter. I should say his next 5 fights but i just said one. I shouldnt call them fights either they should be called paydays because thats what most of them are.

What are you getting at

Earl is probably at the same level as Green and Soliman just because he isnt an Aussie dont discredit him. English boxing is far stronger than ours and to get a record like Earl has would be hard work. If Soliman and Green were there i dont know if they would be really talked about much with the talent of fighters in Britian.

There's guys who are better then Mundine now, who cares if they're not Australian. The only good Australian boxers are foreigners who fight here because they're from underpriveleged countries. Imagine if Tszyu trained in England or USA instead of Australia, he'd have been one of the greatest ever. Darchinyan could have been a talent as well if he didn't waste so much time with Jeff Fenech.

Dude no one here(and i'm assuming in Australia) or oversea' would argue Tszyu' greatness. Tszyu is considered the 4th greatest light welter of alltime on Boxrec and thats computer generated, the number 1 is Julio Cesar Chavez who Tszyu KOED in the sixth. Darchinyan cant be rated because he is still active, but i'm pretty sure he'll rate pretty highly once the gloves are hung up.

The fact that you go by boxrec's rankings shows your lack of knowledge on the sport. Tszyu is in no way shape or form a top 5 junior welterweight of all-time. When you've got guys like Barney Ross, Aaron Pryor, Julio Cesar Chavez (who Tszyu beat when he was at the end of his career, the fact that you used that as an example shows your boxing intelligence), Pernell Whitaker, Roberto Duran, Carlos Ortiz, Niccolino Locche, Duilio Loi and Antonio Cervantes in the division (just to name a few) it's hard for someone like Tszyu to fit in there. Imagine if guys like Mosley or De la Hoya decided to fight Tszyu instead of tackling bigger challengers? Tszyu's reign, let alone his career, wouldn't have lasted until 2005. Tszyu was a good fighter and a decent champion, but he was no legend. Australian trainers can be thankful for that, any other country could turn a 279-11 amatuer into a truly great fighter, just not Australians.
I am seriously struggling with one of my personal promises to myself. That is not to use the ignore button. I think I'm going to have to kick my own arse over this promise, because I'm getting flustered. Not the first time this has happened, but it is the first time it's happened several times in one day on the forum that i love to participate in.

i also know who to spell troll (i think).

I'm sorry if you don't like hearing how it is. The fact of the matter is only Australian's think Tszyu is that great, the rest of the world knows he's maybe top 10 in his division of all-time, but certainly not close to being the greatest. Fact is, should he have fought guys like Sweet Pea, Chavez (in his prime), De La hoya, Mosley or Mayweather he would have had a very short reign. If you want to ignore me thats fine, but you'll only be ignoring the truth!

Mundine never won a full title of any kind, not even a vacant title. The only thing he ever won was the WBA regular title when the actual WBA champion was moved up to super champion status. Mundine has never beaten a champion and he has never even been considered the best in his organisation...
