Boxrec Hall of Fame Discussion Thread (August 2008)

Post by Ambling Alp »

This thread is for a discussion of the Boxrec Hall of Fame. It is meant to discuss the merits of candiates that are eligible for the Hall of Fame.
All voting is to be done on the Boxrec Hall of Fame Ballot (August 2008) thread.

To start things off:
The last two guys that I put on my ballot were Flash Elorde and Bob Montgomery. The last two guys that I cut were Harry Wills and Young Corbett III. I really have a hard judging time who to pick between these guys.
I was wondering why people think these guys should be elected or why they shouldn't.
(Of course we can talk about someone else at any point if anyone would rather.)

If I only want to vote for one guy, how do I do that?

I'm not sure you can, ray...

As it's done on a %age of votes if you vote for one guy then it you are diminishing anyone else's chances. if everyone then votes for just one guy then the whole thing will become untenable.

I know you feel strongly about Sullivan. I'm sure he'll get in...

Ezzard, that's a rather interesting assertion coming from someone who didn't vote for him . . .

My most deserved fighter is Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, who finished his career with a very high, won loss percentage against the very best of his day, including several top black fighters. O'Brien turned pro at 18 and was already facing world class opponents like Bobby Dobbs by his 3rd bout. At various times, he was the world's best at Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, and even gave a good account of himself against some top class Heavyweights despite being outweighed by a substantial amount.

O'Brien and Kid McCoy are the only fighters left from my 1st round ballot.
