Top 10 UK prospects.

Post by stujones »

I recieved a PM following on about my rankings from an American poster who would like to know who the top 10 current UK prospects are. I think it would be a good idea if as many posters as possible make a ten and then if some of the mathematical geniunes makes some sort of formula (i.e 10 for first place, 9 for second, from everybodies list) we can then create our own definative Boxrec top ten UK prospects list.

At the moment I haven't a clue who I'd consider yet - so I'll leave it with you guys and contribute later on.

Lets see who we think the best 10 prospects are.

not a big fan of top ten lists but here goes:
1. David Haye
2. Audley Harrison
3. Enzo Maccerinelli
4. Craig Docherty
5. Kevin Anderson
6. Mike Jennings
7. Gary Young
8. Nicky Cook
9 Jamie Moore
10. Steve foster JNR.
(11) Carl froch

Of course we can argue the placement in the list and argue til we are blue in the face but some of the bright up and comers in my view.

i actualy did one not so long ago and forgot to put my fave in Mr Haye.
Also it dpeends where you draw the line I mean is jeenings still a prospect at 22-0 if so theres a good argument for having people like Jason cook in there too, its all a bit difficult depending on the parameters I find.

I find it very hard compiling these lists, it's so hard to tell until they step up the level of competition....Audley thus far has probably faced the best.

I'd have David Barnes in there. I know he already has the British title but he has the ability to go further than that. He still has a lot to learn as a result of being rushed to this level, and for that reason i'd still call him a prospect.
Matthew Macklin would be at the bottom end of my top ten. He also suffered from being rushed. If he manages to stick with Billy Graham, he could develop into a decent fighter.
I like Mitchell as well. Out of all the names banded about he, IMO, has the most potential. He could be the real superstar of British boxing in a few years time.
Sorry J, i had to wipe Froch out of his number 11 spot. I just don't think he's got it. I can't see him progressing much beyond his current level, he's a KO waiting to happen.

agree re barnes but again where do you draw the line at being a prospect I suppose, totally subjective and I can admit to inconsistency in that list I provided of fighters biengf far more advanced than others....
thats ok mate re Froch thats why i put him at 11 !!!
I do think he is better than most people are making out though.
Its the beeb overhyping that results in such vehement disdain I suppose.

Doesn't Roman Greenberg deserve a mention? I think him and Kevin Mitchell are the most talented looking prospects in the UK right now.

yes he probably does, this is why I hate these lists you can basically put any fighter young enough with a decent record in there and its valid.

5. David Haye.
6. Michael Jennings

8. Carl Johansson.

Maybe Cook is too established to be labelled a prospect though.

i think you have to define what is a prospect first. Jamie Moore is on a couple of lists, but is he really a prospect, or is he beyond that. Cos people are comparing him with guys who have only had a few fights.

well it';s hard, because you then need to look at opposition. Michael Jennings i regard as a prospect yet he's had 20+ fights. where as you have Enzo Maccarinelli, who has had less than 20, but i would put him beyond the prospect stage. It's hard to measure you have to look at each boxer as a seperate case. Makes it hard to rank them, but i suppose if you say less than 18 fights...thats a decent number to go by.

Howabout boxers awaiting their pro-debut, those not yet fought as a professional, but have stated that they're turning over?

Harrison and Haye may be technically amongst the best prospects for skills, but both will be knocked out as soon as they are hit with a decent shot.

Two fighters: Mohammed Khamkhoer and Jim Twite.

Of course you haven't heard of them, they weren't very good. But each one laid out one of the above.

Incidently, Khamkhoer was the last Fitzroy Lodge ABA finalist before Scott McDonald the other week. A long time for such a great club.

I'd say it goes by the level of opposition they've faced. I mean, look at Hatton, he was still being labeled a prospect up until about four fights ago.
