who all are gonna be there or fighting the August 6-9..this will be my 3rd year fighting there..17-34 ,165 lb open class..

I'm going but not bringing any open class fighter, just juniors. The only list of registered boxers is for the Under-19 portion that will be held on the same site as the Ringside.

Because the tournament is so popular (boxers that may not be able to get matches locally because of age/size look to the RWC AND they give away about $500 worth of prize for each winner), there will be a large turnout again. Last year, they had 2,248 boxers total. Texas (321) and Missouri (112) had largest representation. MD had 34 with 9 winning belts. DC won 3, but I didn't get stats on total boxers from DC.

What weight are you? I may be able to tell you some locals (DC area) that will be going at your weight.

i fight at 165..i only have 15 bouts worth of experience, but i've fought one guy with 70 fights and another with 100 so this will be good for me to go against some of the best and most experienced boxers..im up to the challenge..

i been at ringside like 3 or 4 times i made finals last year fought this guy from canada who had 170 fights an he had won ringside like 3 years in a row so it was fun im gonna be thier again to

o ok i guess it was him then..where u from and did u say ur going this year? im looking forward to my first big test being an open fighter against some of the top guys in the 165 class..i only have 15 fights compared to the hundreds of some guys, but i will not be denied of what im going all the way to missouri for..this will be nice for experience before i decide to turn pro..

Corey - may I suggest that you stay around and get more than 15 bouts experience before turning pro? You'll be much better if you box three to four years as an amateur.

yeah i was one of the novice division winners at 165..i think it was two classes total..


boxmel- i agree 3 to 4 years of amateur experience would be good for me..given the various styles of boxing and experience, but im already 23 and i dont want to be too old before i turn pro..but ur right though..i may wait til after golden gloves tho..i'm gonna stay patient..

Of course I'm right! And, trust me, 23 really isn't "too old." Expecially in the higher weight classes. You'll be more marketable and better skilled if you stick around and compete in as many national tournaments as you can - Golden Gloves, U.S. Championships (leads to international events), National PAL.....

132 looks like it will be stacked this year. I know Eric Fowler and Duran Caferro are here, I think Cam O'Connell will be here; looking like lots of guys for that. Seems like it might be slightly fewed people than last year; and they're doing novice women's this year too. And all novice senior rounds got increased to 2 minutes. For the U-19s, I ran into Qaid Muhammad and his dad; I know Josh Davis is here at 132, Ramon Valenzuela is here at 165.

Puerto Rico and Japan too, Kolya. 1400 boxers total. Looks like a lot of teams that didn't go to some of the other 'national' tournaments were holding off for the Ringside.

Sugar Ray Seales (Gold - 1972 Olympic Games) was introduced by John Brown at the coaches meeting. He's coaching in Indianapolis and had his Gold Medal. That was pretty cool.

141lbs 15-16 boys open has 19 boxers in the bracket!! There a lot of large brackets. I have two juniors out here that have 13 and 11 in their brackets, so potentially some full weeks of boxing for us. In the under-19, I'm looking forward to a bunch of potentially great matches. When the brackets/bout sheets are posted this am, I'll list the ones I want to see.

I haven't seen Gary Allan Russell, but I saw his coach. I haven't seen Dominic Wade either or his coach. So, some of the matchups may only be on paper, if everyone that registered isn't here :(

No - all Ringside does is post the championship bouts - about a month after the tournament is over. USAB wouldn't post on their web site as it isn't an advancing national tournament. I think Julie went to Beijing so, hopefully, someone else will post the U-19 results.

Unless someone had inside connections (i.e. affiliated with the tournament) to get the brackets and bout sheets and be able to look at the scorecards afterwards, it would be tough to post all the results. There are two sessions each day with 6 rings going at the same time. It is very difficult to keep track of all the bouts plus it is a long day. Kevin - you should go and try to post the results. I too would really like to see daily results, but I'm not too optimistic that it will happen.

What other "national" tournaments were there that they didn't go to? US Championships and Golden Gloves?

The other national tournaments are the Title tourney, the Ohio State Fair tourney, and many more. They are doing the first annual James Toney tourney this year around the same time. There are also many other tourneys throughout the year that people call national tournaments that boxers can go to. It is very difficult for most coaches and boxers to be able to afford to attend even a few of the tournaments. There is the Black Gloves, the Arnold Classic, the Nat'l Jr. GG, the Nat'l PAL, the Blue & Gold (if it still exists), and others. I was really sad that the ABC Tourney in Wisconsin was cancelled a couple of years ago. I had heard such good things about that one and now it is gone.
