Yes, the guy is American. He interviewed Manny Pacqauio a few weeks ago, has also done Freddie Roach....he is doing Evander Holyfield tomorrow morning.....I've asked him to throw in a question from me!stujones wrote:Enjoyed reading that, the journo seemed America and asked some questions that I wouldn't have thought of - which was great.

I definitely thought Steve was going to do a job on him that night. I had been sparring with Steve and he was in tip top shape and on form....I don't know what happened on the night.stujones wrote:Dynamite Dean Phillips wrote:who is Naz....I have heard that name somewhere beforebennie wrote:Keep us informed of your next fight, Dean. You against a heavy Naz, perhaps.

Dean's definately a Welsh man - still gutted about that rainy night in Cardiff in 1995.
Hahahah He never had a chance against Naz. As good as Robinson was, it was still a complete mismatch...Dynamite Dean Phillips wrote:I definitely thought Steve was going to do a job on him that night. I have got to say, Steve was not himself that night. I am not making excuses for him, because he lost fair and square, but I don't know whether he froze or Hamed's psychological warfare got to him...I was expecting a real war that night, and was disappointed.Loftgroov wrote:Hahahah He never had a chance against Naz. Don't think much of their current top 20 P4P rankings.
James Toney above Erik Morales? What plonker thought that up....

Interesting, I thought Dai Gardner said he couldn't be in tip top shape - didn't he have only 4 weeks notice? or is this a myth.Dynamite Dean Phillips wrote:I definitely thought Steve was going to do a job on him that night. Where you in the documentary the BBC showed after that fight - I remember Dai talking to Steve's sparring partners and also talking to a guy with a 0-14 record.

I sparred with him some time before the fight actually, a good few weeks if my memory serves me right. I wasn't in that documentary, but the guy you are talking about with the 0-14 record has to be Andy Bloomer, who went on to 0-20 before retiring. I think the only guy that stopped him was Naz though; he lost all the rest on points. He still trains and spars at Dai's gym, and can still provide a test for some of the guys. A credit to the gym.stujones wrote:Interesting, I thought Dai Gardner said he couldn't be in tip top shape - didn't he have only 4 weeks notice? or is this a myth.Dynamite Dean Phillips wrote:I definitely thought Steve was going to do a job on him that night. Sorry to harp on about this Dean, you said a good few weeks - but did the camp know it was Hamed. Robinson knew well in advance that his mandatory was up. Steve was supposed to be fighting some Italian guy. Now, this Italian guy lost and (according to the Welsh news at the time) Dai and Steve both felt then that the date would be scrapped because the WBO now didn't have a mandatory.Dynamite Dean Phillips wrote:I sparred with him some time before the fight actually, a good few weeks if my memory serves me right. Now, according to the news again, Steve got a phone call from Dai on his honeymoon saying the WBO mandatory is Hamed and you've got 4 weeks to fight him or be stripped. Gardiner and Robinson tried to take some legal action, because how could a man who had never fought at Feather become mandatory. But they had to take the fight or be stripped.
How much of this is true Dean, if you don't mind - I hope most of it, I WANT to believe that somethig was missing with STEVO.
For me though the warning signs were there when he fought that Argie (in his last ITV fight) he should have moved up to 130 lbs he was getting weight drained.
