Current British champion and #1 ranked WBC contender, Carl 'the cobra' Froch is to head to Canada at the weekend to cheer on his stablemate 'Dazzling' Darren Barker (17-0, 11ko)who defends his title against Larry Sharpe (22-4, 10ko)which is being held by Hennessy Sports at The Venue at River Cree, Alberta, Canada on the 15th August.

"I'm looking forward to getting out to Canada again." said Froch

"I went out there with the England squad to fight their Canadian team and beat a lad called Donny Orr I think. He was an a Olympian i believe."

"It was about 7 or 8 years ago. When little Jean Pascal was still at school".

"If they (Pascal's promoter)win the purse bid to stage the WBC title fight in Canada, I will be more than happy to go over and take little Jean back to school again"

"Obviously i'd much rather the fight be staged in Nottingham, so my fans can get there easily. Especially as it's the World title at last. But in pure boxing terms I'm not remotely fussed about boxing in his back yard."

"It will just be a little bit more embarrassing for him when all his little chums watch him get his boot's smoked by the Cobra".

"As an amateur i boxed from Canada to Copenhagen and all over Eastern Europe, winning pretty much everything like the Box-cup etc in my division."

"Apart from one occasion in the Eastern Bloc when i bounced a kid off the canvas about 6 times and broke his nose and yet still lost on points." Laughed Froch. "But that's the way it goes sometimes out there (boxing away)".

"But make no mistake, this fight isn't going to points." He said in a serious tone.

"Let's just hope he shows up".

It is anticipated that the fight will hopefully be organised between Hennessy and GYM for mid October to early November with American television hopefully broadcasting this fight Stateside.

Looks like that could be the date for it then. Hopefully ITV will be interested.

Haye had to wait for Mormeck - did he get rid of Maloney then and there when the fight kept getting delayed?

Does it speak badly of Hennessy, or does it speak badly of so called world class contenders or their safety first promoters that won't let them step up?

Inkin didn't want it, Taylor went elsewhere, so surely Pascal wants to fight for a world title. If so, it'll happen here or there, home or away, and that'll be done with...

Though Warren gets guys like Macca instant title shots, let's not forget, this is with the WBO, who seem to go out of their way to please certain promoters. This is a sanctioning body that scandallously approved 40 something Ezra Sellers undergoing physiotherapy as a Mac title defence, only to be embarassingly shot down by the BBBofC.

Good points Autobarn.

I'm hearing the first Saturday in November, possibly Showtime / ITV.

If / When Froch wins, expect Bute and Kessler to get immediate offers to be the next fight.

Carl really needs to learn to talk himself up a bit more. He's far too modest.

If he does fight regularly on ITV then I think the general public will quickly grow to dislike him and not in a "love him or hate him" way like Eubank. Carl is arrogant but without any of Eubank or even Hamed's charisma. I'm told he's actually quite a nice guy but his media appearances hide that fact well.

He has no choice though does he - Doing things the proper way is spin put out from Hennessey fans.

Hennessey reminds me a lot of how Mickey Duff ended up - Using the euro scene to get rankings with the wbc and then waiting on an eliminator or number one raking for the title shot.

Warren picked up a lot of fighters from Duff and his inabilty to keep fighters active.

does hennessy pay the oppos peanuts or somat

why do the oppos always pull out ?? it has to be cause they are on shite money

no one has that much bad luck

he needs to invest to pull in a decent return, and it seems (to me) that he isnt prepared to invest ala franky/Kosta Zoo (2.2m)/Lacy/Kessler etc

Fair enough points. I'd just like to see fighters move clearly and honestly from one level to the next.

The proper way means getting a European title.

Yeah but knocking out Magee and TKOing Tatevosyan is the same as winning the EBU belt. Tatevosyan held a win over Gogiya -who happened to be Euro champ when Froch beat Tate (I believe).

Murat, the EBU champ, got a gift vs Sanavia to win the EBU belt. Murat is a level below Froch.

Hmm not sure it was a gift as such, i mean the fight was close enough but i agree Sanavia seemed to have sneaked it.

As for the Barker-Sharpe fight. I heard it was on Fight Network, what time would that all be starting then?

Here we go again.
OK both sides of the argument put and you can take your pick.
However what cannot be disregarded is
1/ Carl's age.
2/ Carl's inactivity (less and less fights per annum)
3/ Failure of Promotor to put in a sufficiently attractive purse bid to ensure Carl gets his shot.

If I've said it once I've said it a million times.
I fear Carl is going to join the "if only" club.
Enough of the big man talk - getting more and more pathetic after each release - Enough of "everyone's against me and my Promotor" - Enough of conspiracy theories that every other Promotor is out there to fornicate Hennessey - he's hardly a chalenger at this moment in time is he ? -
Get in the ring, step up and lets see once and for all if the big talk is backed up.
I have expressed my fears about Carl's defence when he steps up to World level - but I want to be proven wrong - IN THE RING - not with talk about his sparring training etc and his awesome power - IN THE RING.
I've really heard enough now.
Put up or shut up Hennessey.

Froch is good enough to get a world title-shot.

Certainly, I would put him up there with the enst Super Middleweights of today... Alongside Kessler, Mundinde and Inkin...

Methinks that his promoter isn't doing him no favours, the last thing Carl needs to do is "hit the road"... Journeyman rarely get wrodl ttile shots.

Hammed and Eubank were showmen, big gobs, arrogance and backflips. Carl Froch is just arrogant and as you say hasnt got their charisma. Cant see him beating Kessler or Bute.

His style will be his downfall and his arrogance will be quelled after his defeat. Kessler would be too much for him.
