Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Best that I can do is maybe take some pics of the bracket sheets with my digital camera and post those online. Too many fights to type up. I'll see how clear they come out.
Under 19s will be easier. There aren't that many boxers and there are only a few bouts today.

Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
I put "national" in quotes because I use that term loosely - meaning tournaments that attract boxers from outside the local area where the bout is held. The two you mention, I would call national without quotes :)boxmel wrote:What other "national" tournaments were there that they didn't go to? US Championships and Golden Gloves?
By "national" I mean tournaments like: Jr. National Golden Gloves, Ringside/Comcast, Title Tournament, Black Gloves, Platinum Gloves, DC Mayors Cup, Long Island Championships. I see the same faces at some of those tournaments, but their numbers were down this year. I've seen some of them here at Ringside.
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hah! Made you think!
I knew what you meant. I get a large kick out of the fact these other non-advancing tournaments call themselves "national" - just like I laugh everytime I see "Ringside World Championships." JB must have an in with AIBA to be allowed to use "World Championships."
And you left out the Ohio State Fair, too!
Glad you, Amy and Kolya are there - we'll get some eye witness reports.

Yeah, but I have an in with a higher higher up. Wait until my Universal Boxing Classic. Stay tuned for details.boxmel wrote:Hah! Made you think!I knew what you meant. Yes, I also can't understand what's so hard to understand about the difference between an invitational and an advancing tournament.boxmel wrote:Glad you, Amy and Kolya are there - we'll get some eye witness reports.
If you get a kick out of that and have some time to kill read the following dialogue arguing why some non-advancing tournaments are better than the Silver Gloves or Junior Olympics: https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogI ... 7893219079. I enjoyed that one.

Non-invitational? IF a boxer wants to become part of the elite group, he or she must compete in the National JOs and US Championships. Both establish the national rankings and lead to international competition. All others afford each and every athlete the chance to compete and gain experience and skills and should be looked at in that manner.Yes, I also can't understand what's so hard to understand about the difference between an invitational and a
Ahh - the egos. Ever present in our sport. I guess it's up to each invididual to determine which tournament offers them the most - and it should be because of the experience gained, not the size of the belt or other material stuff. Great blog. Of course, I posted.have some time to kill read the following dialogue arguing why some non-advancing tournaments are better than the Silver Gloves or Junior Olympics: https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogI ... 7893219079. Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
I have three boxers still in it and because of their ages/weights - it's been really hard to keep up. With 300 bouts per day, even thought I've been here many times - it's still amazes me that it gets bigger and bigger.
If anyone has any divisions they want results for, I can get answers. I WILL try to bring my camera to take pictures of updated brackets.
I can tell you that the fight of the day was between Gary Russell III or Allan and Manny Taylor - both from DC area in the Under-19 141lbs. division. Russell won 17-14, but depending on who you ask - it could have gone either way. I will be posting the bout online for those who want to see. I will do that when I get back from the 6pm bouts.

Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Dennis, I went to Ringside in 2006 but it cost me too much, unfort. with losing a weeks pay and nearly $1,000 for hotel, fuel, food, etc., I couldn't afford it again. Besides, it was very difficult to keep up with six rings at once - and very long days - and it was difficult at times to even obtain bout sheets to try to keep track of what was happening. Maybe next year I'll be in better position to do something.
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Kevin - trust me I understand. With technology the way it is, it seems like Ringside could post the results each day. If they are updating the brackets, it is obvious that they could do it quite easily.Sportssummary wrote:Dennis, I went to Ringside in 2006 but it cost me too much, unfort. with losing a weeks pay and nearly $1,000 for hotel, fuel, food, etc., I couldn't afford it again. Also, I am glad you mentioned the Ohio State Fair...back in the day that was definitely the place to be!!
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Nice article "Iceman". Only 1 loss as an amateur with over 100 bouts with many at the elite national and international level is just plain amazing.
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
We I fought there in 04, they did post the results everyday.
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Dennis - they are probably using the computer draw (Tournament Builder) to update the brackets - does it automatically. To post the daily results would take one person inputting data from all 6 rings - that's a tremendous and almost impossible task.Kevin - trust me I understand. Tournament builder has website publishing capabilities built into the software. It should be easy for them to post results.
Sad they don't

They used to but the company went out of business some years ago. You can't get the product any more or support.Tournament builder has website publishing capabilities built into the software. It should be easy for them to post results.

Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
HAS ANYONE FOUND A Link to the results from the 2008 Ringside tourney going on right now?
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
There are no results, John. Ringside will post the championships after the tournament - about 3 weeks to a month later. You can check the local online Kansas newspapers and see if they are carrying anything.
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Does anyone have any results? Bouts that were exceptional?
Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
I know Thomas Williams and Duran Caferro both won (Caferro's 5th Ringside Championship); I assume Cam O'Connell won, just too big to be able to tell everyone though. Craig Lewis looked ok against some HUGE super heavy; Jeremiah Graziano I saw on the mitts and I could tell it was him without seeing his face.

Re: 2008 RINGSIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Dennis, I've put some of the bouts that I've have online if you want to take a look playlists below. I'm putting more of the finals up now.Dennis wrote:Does anyone have any results? Bouts that were exceptional?
As far as the Ringside Tourney goes, I was really impressed with Frankie Gomez (15/16 125lbs) from LA, Gabino Saenz (open 119lbs.) from Indio, CA, Miguel Flores (15/16 119lbs) from Houston, TX) and Kareem Martin (11/12 132lbs.), who had a great bout that I only caught the last round of versus Junior Younan. He moved up from 125lbs. after being unopposed. Julian Rodriquez v. Kenneth Sims was a good bout as was the Pedro Duran vs. Lynyrd Estrada. I'm partial to the younger boxers, because most of our boxers are juniors.
Rodriguez vs. Sims http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYpUTCnukgo
Duran vs. Estrada http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi3_-Pd-pHo
Flores vs. Hernandez http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6yeUefyheg
Magruder vs. Ramirez http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOh6CxOL-QY (Not finished uploading but link will be the same)
