Not a bad list...One needs to know the criterion....p4p1 wrote:bump
But Foreman would destroy Schmeling...

They used to have the formula on wikipedia but it's not there anymore. Well, I couldn't find it.
Re: boxrec heavyweight all time ratings list
Thanks for putting this up P4P1, it gave me the diea of fidning the top 30 on the other thread
(Listen to me advertising) HA HA HA.
I think EVERYONE who has ever taken an interest in Heavyweight Boxing would have these in the top 30:
Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Jack Johnson,
Rocky Marciano, Joe Frazier, Jack Dempsey
George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis,
Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Max Schmeling
JJ Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Gene Tunney, (the last 2 would DEFO be in, that's if you don't count them Light Heavyweights)
Then, I myself would put in:
Jimmy Bivins, Jimmy Ellis, Jerry Quarry, Primo Carnera, Henry Cooper, Zora Folley
But I am very hesitant to put in the likes of boxers from 1800s or the 20th centruy (espcailly beofre the 30s)
Becuase I think that they aren't really worth mentioning until you get to the Jack Johnson era... PLUS, I find it hard to place boxers that I have enver seen box before in my life.
So the likes of:
6 Harry Wills 81 (51) - 10 (5) - 4
7 Sam Langford 202 (130) - 47 (9) - 45
17 Jack Sharkey 38 (13) - 14 (4) - 3
18 Sam McVea 65 (47) - 16 (5) - 10
19 James J Jeffries 18 (15) - 1 (1) - 2
21 Joe Jeannette 112 (68) - 22 (2) - 14
28 Eddie Machen 50 (29) - 11 (3) - 3
1955-1967 orthodox
29 Georges Carpentier 88 (57) - 15 (9) - 6
1908-1926 orthodox
32 Peter Maher 61 (42) - 27 (18) - 6

I can't find it anymore either. I remember that it was fairly complicated, but seemed to make a lot of sense. I do recall that it only 15 fights of each fighters career. (I'm not sure how it's decided which 15 are counted.)Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:They used to have the formula on wikipedia but it's not there anymore. Well, I couldn't find it.
