Holmes-Cobb

Post by TheOneIsHere2008 »

Was that the most one sided heavyweight championship bout that went the distance in history?

Did the referee have an obligation to stop it? It seemed Cobb sustained a continual beating that was bad enough to hurt him but not bad enough to knock him down...

After the fight Cobb said Holmes didn't hit very hard...

People go a bit over the top with this one. Holmes outboxed him but it was never a beating to these eyes -- just Howard Cossell going off on a tangent and being unable to shift gears. Its famously known Cossell weas clueless.

If you go to youtube you can see the real ex Mrs Cobbs opine on the fight...She said they went out "partying" after the fight...I guess that's why they're fighters...

Cobb said after the bout, "Next time we'll fight in a phone booth, and I'll win". I think I had it 150-135.

Holmes just won the first 15 rounds of that fight, Cobb
was saving himself for the later rounds.

I think it was one sided and while Holmes was looking to
finish the fight, but after awhile you could see him just
working the jab alone.

I think this fight was interesting to watch, as Cobb had been
pretty effective against Dokes and an old Shavers-Norton
yet Holmes completely owned him.

I think the commentary by Cossel was annoying and panic
mongering. That is what makes this fight notable more than
the one sided beating Cobb was receiving.

Cosell was just annoying, and his entire career highlighted
the need for atleast a two man commentary team. He was
just so annoying and like Perchenco would later on...always
always always seemed to link someting to the greatness of
Ali.

Except Lewis and Tua did not have anyone having a seizure
on the commentary.

As Howard would point out...

All the facts in this topic lead to the conclusion that Ali was the greatest fighter ever.

" If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife."

That seems contradictory...I am not a fundamentalist, far from it...But the Bible is full of good prose...

We're leading this thread astray... There is good instruction though ,as in The Beatitudes...

And I started with a Biblical quote to show my appreciation for Ali's talents were based on reason and not faith...
