Anyone know how Paul Ingle is?

I was at the former IBF Featherweight Champions last fight, a very sad night.

Anybody know how he is health wise these days? and what he is up to?

Now Brodie Vs Ingle that would have been a good scrap.

There was a special on him in either ZOO or NUTS magazine not so long back i was reading, he is still on the slow road to recovery i think but it is still a long and arduous process.

Its a real pity about Paul Ingle, I really admired him through his career, his heart was unreal. He gave Naz a great fight and his fight with Medina was brillant when he won the IBF world championship.

Funny this thread should come up as I watched his fight with Billy Hardy last night.

Last I seen of Paul was on ringside, it was ages ago. Hes often forgot about and it is nice to see someone take notice of him. Id love to hear more myself on how he is. On ringside when I saw it, he was helping to train guys in the gym.

Paul certainly paid the price in Boxing, I for one will never forget his career.

Ingle Vs Medina was a great fight, I remember how brave Paul was that night and the cut on his head. I have that fight still. Also getting a defence in America was great as well against Junior Jones.

I guess theres not much talk about him in boxing media etc as it brings the bad side of boxing up and they deal more on active fighters. But his career should not be forgotten, he boxing days was a credit to British Boxing.

Here Here The Hawk, for me he's different class to Brodie and Harrison.

Ingle and Spencer Oliver are two fighters I admired and I thought they'd be world beaters for years to come (especially Spencer). Such as shame, I hope there is some memorial.

Whilst, I don't want to criticise the efforts that have happened to remember and help Michael Watson, Ingle was the one who was the geniune world champion - he should have similar help.

One of the reasons I joined this forum was because of another thread about Paul Ingle, where someone posted that they thought he looked ill getting interviewed before coming out to the ring. I swear, as I was watching that backstage footage live, I said aloud at the time that I saw him getting hurt in that fight. And when it actually did happen I was well spooked. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but that night I was convinced as never before that he was going to get hurt, did anyone else genuinely have that feeling too?

On a lighter note, I'll never forget the preview Sky did where Ingle was walking around NYC in an England top. For me, it really hit home then that he was on the world stage. Then when he actually won I couldn't believe how a British fighter had jumped across the pond and won against a name American on their home turf. Sure, it can seem obvious that 'name' British fighter A would easily defeat 'name' American fighter B, but there's a strange feeling of euphoria for UK fight fans when it actually happens on HBO.

Ingle definately had a career to remember; black eye on boxing if it were to be forgotten.

paul,s getting better every day , but hes obviously still got a long way to go.

still living with his devoted mam in scarborough

put on loads of weight (mainly due to the medication and not being able to do any real kind of fitness training)

last time i saw him , about 3 months ago he looked as though he weighed about 14 stone.

he,s in good spirits though.

its nice to know people still think about him now and again.

Totally agree with you Hawk, I have the Ingle V Medina fight on tape, I must rewatch it sometime. Off the top of my head didn't that fight break some sort of record for punches throw in a Featherwight fight on TV?

I think they said it was a SKY record, the amount of punches in that fight.

Strange you should say this. I was at Pauls last fight, I'd actually won two tickets in a Boxing Monthly competition.

Anyway from almost the start of the fight I kept saying to my mate (who's not a fight fan but I dragged him along) There's something wrong with Paul over and over again. Buy the last few round I was shouting for them to stop the fight. Honest!!!

I'm not blaming anyone for what happened Boxing can be so brutal at times and sadlt these things happen. But it was a very strange and sad night.

That's right, he got hurt in the 1st or 2nd and he was never in the fight from that point on and if you'd saw Ingle fight before, you knew that wasn't him, it was obvious therewas something wrong, same with Spencer Oliver.

In Ingles last fight he was stopped by Botile after taking a lot of punishment from a naturaly smaller man. Ingle had the reputation of being a strong and very very busy fighter, however as mentioned above many felt he just didn't look right throughout the fight.

After being stopped, Ingle collapsed in the ring and was rushed to hospital and had a blood clot removed from his brain.

The fight was the chief support to the Joe Calzaghe V Richie Woodall fight.

Paul was a high octaine pressure fighter who would throw an enourmose amount of punches.

Amateur, his fightes were always value for money, if you have chance try and get a copy of his fight with Medina or even Hamed, Jones or McMillan.

Cheers Bennie for the info - find it hard to believe that Ingle vs Medina beat Morales vs Barrera 1 - but obviously it did.

I think Medina holds the record for most punches landed in his disputed lost with Tapia.
