I remember that when Khan won his silver it was suggested that his club coach should of been more involved, but really it happens in everysport. look at the international football, the manager of a country wouldn't stand for involvment of the club managers would he.

As for Kerry Kayes (yes he was mentioned, 'sweetscience'), well Kayes has got as much free publicity as he could want, not his fault, but i bet he can milk this for all its worth.

Kerry Kayes can't help anyone who won't do as they are told. End of.

i skimmed through it

end of the day Gavin couldnt make the weight regardless of who they brought

kerry wouldnt have been any use anyway, what experience does he have ???? the work he has done with Hatton is completely irrelivant, he only has to make the weight once 30 hours before but with the Ams they have to maintain the weight

Gavin said him self many months ago the reason he went at 60kg (knowing he would struggle) was that he was 50/50 for gold, if he went at 64kg there was just a good chance he could medal

his gamble didint pay off and he has lost out on millions, it was lottery funded money (the reported £70k) anyway so i couldnt give a toss id rather it went in his pocket than some poncy art gallery, also Stalker (GB#2) didnt have the experience to medal anyway so GB havent really lost out - Gavin is only real loser

Kerry is widely respected in the Bodybuilding community, especially the IFBB, for his nutrition expertise and has built, in many weight and bodybuilders opinion, the most comprehensive and best sports nutrition brand there is.

I'm more of a BSN fan myself, but I use his products for some things.

I agree with sweetscience to a huge extent and have said so here:

I don't care how good Kerry Kayes is. If the lad wouldn't do as he's told, Kayes wouldn't miraculously get him on the weight.

Getting Hatton fit and strong and 10st is very impressive just in itself

Indeed. But don't you think Hatton's high profile weight making tactics have given others a false impression? Hatton, in weight making terms is a) a freak and b) does as he is told when he has to.

My point is, if Hatton ate a lot when he wasn't supposed to, Kayes wouldn't get him to 10st. The same thing applies with Gavin.

An american boxer was sent home as well, after being found collapsed in his room, this was through weight making. The USA officials have said they think he may not have been following the rehydration instructions he had been told.

Terry D wrote:He would if the guy had done what Murray did and stuck to what he had to do. Olympics are a big thing and bringing someone in to help in June and then, possibly, not going with the programme 100% is crazy. Kayes has had results with fighters who are prepared to stick to the programme, I don't know Gavin, maybe he cut a few corners thinking the weight he put on could easily be taken off. It is a crazy situation but common consensus in many matters, for many people you speak to, is that the ABA could not organise a prayer meet in heaven. Many fighters you speak to turn pro too early just to get away from the British amateur game.

It is not good for boxing because no organisation is going to want to put money into a sport in which the competitors are often their own worst enemy.
Terry, it is so easy to have a go at the ABAE. Organisationally, they might be poor. But I wouldn't necessarily extend this to training.

My whole point is that Kayes nor anyone else would not help an individual if he didn't do as he was told. "He would if the guy had done what Murray did and stuck to what he had to do." Of course. But you seem to think that the ABAE have been leading Gavin down the wrong path and Kayes would somehow 'sort it out'.

Could it not be that Gavin himself let his weight get away from him - against advice - and then learned a very harsh lesson?

So are you saying Gavin had a set plan to keep to but he deliberately ignored Kayes advice?
Do you perhaps think there is something more sinister afoot?

According to library pictures on ITN last night from an interview with Frankie the week before he said he was "ahead of schedule".

That makes me think he did have a schedule, Coco.

Not at all. My personal opinion is that when you are a young lad and a world champion, you sometimes MIGHT think you know best. That's all. I could be completely wrong, of course.

I'm just a bit sick and tired of everyone blaming everyone else apart from the man himself.

The idea that 'something sinister' has gone down is ridiculous. A few of my mates were saying similar things in the pub last night. What could possibly be the master plan then? I know I'll wipe half a mill off my pro value and tarnish my reputation by not making weight a day before the Olympics, the event I have been working towards since I first got a pube round my cock? Some plan that!

I think it is more of a case of Gavin outgrowing his division, I imagine he did his absolute best and just couldn't shift the weight.
However I do feel that the ABA are reluctant to bring in outside experts for fear of their own limitations being exposed.

I also do not believe anything sinister has gone on.
However the plausible theory would be that Gavin gambled on a World Gold being worth more than a poor, weight weakened Olympic campaign.
Therefore he has already accepted an offer thinking that offer is worth more than what he may get after the event.
I remember Haye pulled out of the Commonwealths in similar circumstances

Murray has been using CNP for years hasnt he ???

how come he collapsed after that weight in earlier inthe year ?
