What was Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s amateur record? Did he compete in the Olympics? I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me about Floyd's amateur background..

He won bronze at featherweight in the '96 olympics after losing to this guy in the semifinal: http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=017404

His amateur record was 84-6. Other losses that I know of was to Augie Sanchez and Nourredine Medjihoud from Algeria

Well, Mayweather was just as lucky to get through his quarterfinal against Cuban Lorenzo Aragon (won by a point or two in a fight with scores over 40) as he was unlucky against Todorov. Both fights were closish and far from robberies, but IMO (and I have them on tape) the wrong hand was raised in the end of both fights.

Anyway, Algerian Hocine Soltania beat Todorov in the final quite clearly & definitely easier than Lil' Floyd. Thus he has every right to claim that he was the best featherweight of the tournament dependless of possible bad decision or two in other side of draw.

You must have confused Holcine with Somluck Kamsing. Somluck Kamsing won gold at featherweight, Holcine won at lightweight. The funny thing about Somluck Kamsing is that while he remains in the amateurs he's not even in the 10 feathers anymore. Ricardo Juarez battered Kamsing in 2000, the final score was 31- 16

Correct. Kamsing it was. That happens when you write from memory. And in that case I take away a comment about clear win. IIRC, Kamsing-Todorov was another throw-the-dice fight - very, very close.

He also lost to Chucky Tschorniawsky when he was very young, and lost to Juan Carlos Ramirez (dual meet) and Paul Spadafora.

He also lost to Arnulfo Bravo at the 1994 US Jr championships, earning a bronze medal at flyweight.
