1920-1930 film or audio - is it available

Post by robert.snell1 »

does anyone have details of what , if any, film or audio is available for Canada and the U.K. The BBC and CBC may well have some but they would charge an arm and a leg I think.
The period I am interested in is from 1920-1930. Any photo material would also be good. Any advice would be welcome - apart from don't bother trying.
This should get some comical replies , thanks folks

It's worth giving http://www.britishpathe.com a try, I found quite a few 30s boxing clips, 20s one's are a bit scarse though. You can download a low quality sample of any of their clips for free or purchase a high quality copy.

http://www.itnarchive.com/ is also worth a go.

http://www.corbis.com is a good resource for photos. I found one of my Grandfather, who boxed in the 20s on there.

There is a Bill Cayton website selling audio of fights from that era. Can't recall the URL. But, it's mostly U.S. fights.

Thanks very much for that advice. I started looking at both of the sites today but nothing so far. However there is a great deal of material to look at and I am sure it will help in getting a better picture of what the boxing scene was like all those years ago.

With regard to the Bill Cayton site, I am going to find that after this reply and with a bit of luck will find some relevant material.

Again I thank you for you advice. Any other help would be most welcome.

Hello,

http://www.caytonsports.com/

The Cayton list for sale is partial and small. I know of two other private collectors in the United States.

Use cut and paste to put in the Internet Explorer address location. Select Film and Television Archive, then use keywords like boxing, Louis, Marciano, Dumont (TV Network), etc.
