Under-19 Fight of the Tournament Taylor vs. Russell Video

Post by DCAmateurBoxing »

I have many other vids that I will be releasing after the tournament finals start tomorrow. I didn't want to post earlier and give any boxers any advantages. Since these two boxers are no longer in the tournament, here you go. "Judge" for yourself.

For those of you attempting to "judge" via video - remember that you are only seeing one point of view. :D

GREAT FIGHT!! Both those guys are warriors. In my opinion it could have gone either way. The people calling it a robbery are crazy. From what I saw Russell was throwing alot more punches up until about 4 minutes, Taylors defense was tight, but I would still call that for Russell. After that when they started trading, I think Taylor had the slight edge. Thank your for posting the video DC!

I agree. I have about 20 or so bouts from the first 3 days and will try to get as many of the championship bouts up as possible. I will post those tomorrow a.m. Championship bouts will be up after I get back to DC Sunday/Monday.

Sorry, I'm working off of zero sleep this week. Forgot to ID boxers.

Russell = red corner
Taylor = blue corner.

Last two rounds were excellent; I think Manny lost it in the first round by not piling up any points. I don't know the round scoring, but I would said Gary was pretty well ahead at the end of round 1. It's very hard to play catch up if you fall behind in the beginning.

DCAB - why was Gary on the ropes facing out in the second round? What happened that caused him to do that? The ref just stood around doing nothing.

Couple of comments - (1) refereeing was bad. (2) I don't know how the in very hell you can hear a bell or a ref's commands in that venue! Maybe it's okay for the Ringside tournament, but to put an advancing USA Boxing tournament that leads to a worlds in that setting is just plain stupid, let alone criminal, and certainly not in the best interests of the athletes.

Mel - with USA Boxing's financial problems in the past (present too?), it was have it held at Ringside or not at all. Maybe that was the choice for '08 too. I agree that the venue isn't the best for a tourney that advances to an international competition, but it is better than not holding it and either not sending boxers to the Worlds or having the team hand-picked without competition.

Used to be that the USAB Events Department would put the tournaments out to bid, therefore making money or, at least, not bearing all the costs. I wonder if that is still the strategy?

In regard to the venue - if that's the best that can be done, I feel sorry for the athletes who are, obviously, not the #1 priority any more. Millman is supposed to be a marketing whiz; so are several of our BOD members. I think USAB is failing the boxers.

His shoe came untied, which he conveniently pointed out to the ref after taking a good shot. Hearing the cowbell that ended the rounds and fights (rsc) wasn't that hard to hear. I just was standing near all the people yelling like crazy. Btw, it was literally a cowbell!!

Ahhhh - thanks for the info. Still didn't think much of the reffing.

It still sounds like a circus to me! And, yes, I've used a cowbell before. 8)

USAB failing the boxers is nothing new. I hope it changes soon.

It is a circus. As a fan, it isn't enjoyable either. Too many bouts going on at the same time. 3 rings at once, is hard enough to watch. 6 is just crazy.

They had 7 this year!! 6 for Ringside and then 1 for the Under-19, all going simulataneously.
