Well, he was buggered when he won the Worlds in Chicago. And then when Bradley Saunders won bronze at 64 – thus qualifying for Beijing – he was double buggered!

It's said that he struggled terribly at the weight in Chicago, yet he produced the performances of his career to win the tournament.

They had to give him every opportunity to make the weight right up til the final hour. You have to assume they thought the heat and humidity of China would shift the final few pounds.

Depending on which way you look at it, it's a major cock-up or just terribly sad.

Thats pretty much how I viewed the whole episode to be honest - gutted for the lad that he didnt get his chance to shine but I have been really pleased with the way that the rest of the team have reacted thus far.

Lets hope it continues into the medal rounds!

I agree, Billy Joe's our best hope of Gold and I think either Tony Jeffries of Kenneth Egan can make the light-heavy final. Bradley Saunders will have his hands more than full with the Bulgarian – Boris Georgiev. I like the Cuban – Roniel Iglesias – at light-welter.

Yep, for me Billy Joe Saunders is the best boxer in the GB Squad - the way he boxed in his first round match was, for an 18 year old, phenominal.

Win or lose against the Cuban, the ABA are going to have a job on their hands keeping him in the vest until 2012. If I was a promoter I would be chasing his signature harder than any other fighter on the squad.

Joyce did tremendously well for Ireland today, besting a man who had beaten him, I think, 4 times previously - that must take some self belief.

i just want to see DeGale a bit more positive when he nexts fights, i know its a chess match sometimes in amateur boxing, but DeGale looks the part when he puts his punches together, not when he's tippy-tapping around his opponent
