Thanx for posting it...I couldn't find it...

The color was a bit dark so it's hard to see how messed up Young's face was...

Of course, the fight wasn't a fix...I don't see how that would make Young look better if he took a dive in granmama's or anybody's eyes; it would only make him a chump...

I was just terribly disappointed to see Young reduced to having to thumb his opponent in order to stay competitive. It just wasn't all that sportsmanlike.

And hitting Cooney in his nether parts...You know that only enraged him...

Yes.

Granbery insisted several times that Young was payed to throw the fight and stand in front of Cooney.

Perhaps this granberry gentleman doesn't like Jimmy Young and that's why he said he took a dive.

He took quite a beating. Is there a link where I can read more about it.

I enjoyed listening to Gil Clancy call the fight. I believe he went on to train Gerry Conney.

granberry responds only in threads where the word Muhammed Ali is mentioned and the thread is about something completley different.

Try entering Muhammed Ali in the thread title, and he will reply

If someone said a boxer took a dive and visual evidence calls it into question it is incumbent him to explain why.

Young was already snorting 'speed' by this time. He was a shell of a man and a shell of a fighter. No fix. The great white hype mullered him.

His record is amazing...He made somebodys look awful at times and nobodies look great at times...

He did die at 57 which is rather young but for a boxer who knows?

Moore and Schmeling lived to ripe old ages but many died at younger ages than what an actuarial table would suggest...

Young's heart gave out from all the amphetamine abuse. He never really got over losing a close one to Norton.

He also had pugilsist dementia...When you read bios of old fighters that diagnosis comes up a lot...

Funny how Grumbleberry moans about Duran doing it against Moore, yet Young did the same thing.

Why are you ignoring this thread Granberry? You posted today so why don't you come on here, re-watch the video and tell us exactly how it was a fix.

Why did Jimmy Young punch Gerry Cooney in his testicles?

Did he think the judges were blind?

Here is what Granny said about this on another thread :
Some people know Young-Cooney was a fix.

Like anybody who knows the most basic techniques of boxing.

Young stood directly in front of Cooney and let Cooney hit him to the head and body.

It bothers poor ebeneezer to no end that Cooney was a media-created NY fake who lost to anyone who hit him back, even pathetic Michael Spinks.

LOL
The cut was above Young's eyes, on his forehead just above his eyes.

While I sat on a folding chair at Frazier's gym Young showed me where the cut had been and commented, "Cooney is not a puncher. Notice I stood right in front of him and he hit me to the head and body. And he never shook me. He is not a puncher."

Young also said that he didn't fight in his usual "way" for that obvious fake.

I said, "I know."

Because a one-month ban went into effect on GB. Anyone else who antagonizes, taunts or calls others names, or otherwise continues to pollute threads with juvenile antics, or creates threads taunting others, can join GB in temporary--or permanent--purgatory. Get the point, folks? We have had ENOUGH!!

Four point points

1) I'm no expert

2) Cooney was far from a bum...He acquitted himself fairly well against Larry Holmes...It's not as if he was Tex Cobb out there...

3) When you say a boxer threw a fight or was involved in a fixed fight you are not only questioning his honor but are accusing him of criminal activity...One should have some second party evidence before making such a claim...

4) Michael Spinks was far from pathetic...If he never moves up in weight we might be talking about how impressive his undefeated record was...

I wasn't trying to create the thread to taunt him just to get him to clarify his insane beleif that Cooney v Young was a fix.

P.S : Well done on the ban.

When granberry says Young took a dive, does he mean it literally, that Young engaged in a premeditated criminal activity?

Or is he just accusing Young (in a hyperbolic way) of not showing up in any proper shape to fight and with the mindset of a journeyman, just there for his payday?

I don't see any basis for the fisrt one, but the second one is pretty much true IMO.

Young was just a fat, unmotivated shell of himself at that time. In fact, he was a fat, unmotivated shell before that, when he lost to Ocasio. Which is why Cooney fought him.

The former...That's what frosts some of us...The supposition that Young could have beat Cooney if he wanted to...

granberry rambles on this one and I think he has suggested both scenarios. On one occasion he goes into detail about when and where Young lost his will and everything after that moment in his career goes downhill for him. But I have also seen him word it to make one believe that it was made up on the spot...and that he premeditated a bad fight plan, or just dogged it during the bout. So he seems to want it both ways. I'm good with Young was a psychological wreck and had just lost his will, I'm not good with he dogged it during the fight laying down his readily available skills and energy allowing Cooney to roll him. I think he tried to win with what he brought that day, but was not prepared for Cooney on that day.

Prime vs Prime? All things equal? I'd bet on Young and plan to collect. But that's not even close to the way the cards were stacked on that day. IMHO
