Where have all the exhibitions gone?

Post by KOJOE90 »

When reading Boxing books about fighters of the past it seemed that many fighters would very often fight exhibitions between their fights. Either for extra cash, charity or to help promote an up and coming fight.

Ali, Louis and Carnera always seemed to be Boxing exhibitions.

This seems to have gone out of fashion somewhat over the last 20 years. Am I right in thinking this? Is there a reason for this?

I for one think it's a shame that more exhibitions don't happen. Do you agree?

Yeah, I couldn't believe that even Eddie Croft vs Morales wasn't an exhibition bout (it was a charity bout, but it was for the championship).

Larry Holmes has been doing a few exhibtion its even down on the boxrec database. A little bit of the old character has gone out of the game and there are now other ways of promoting an upcoming bout.

If DLH lost an exhibition bout the whole world would know in literally seconds and the result would be taken a bit more seriously than they would have and it would adversely effect the selling of his next fight.

The game's a little bit too serious and buisness orientated to have exhibtions. Which in some ways is a shame.

I think it's a great shame. They wouldn't have to be hard fought contests just 'semi-harf sparring' type affairs,

the money henry has made makes him " well off" in the uk, it makes him stinking rich in nigeria. Its his homeland and makes him a fairly big attraction there.
