Margarito - Clottey only for WBA belt?

Post by claudevsq »

Is this right on your schedule? Will Clottey have to, before he fights Margarito on November 1st, lay down his belt, just like Margarito had to? Or is this a unification match (which I believe it is, and in which case Nuzhnenko would become the regular WBA champion)? If so, please add the IBF title to your schedule which only mentions the WBA title at the moment...

Despite talk that Zab Judah would still land the fight [rumors that were squashed by Top Rank head Bob Arum], talks are ongoing to match WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito against the new IBF champion Joshua Clottey in a unification rematch on November 1.

Arum told Steve Kim of MaxBoxing that he would be meeting with the officials of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The event would be carried on pay-per-view, but the twist here, is that Arum is looking to place the card on Showtime's pay-per-view arm, and not the pay-per-view outlet of HBO.

"It would be a pay-per-view event, it's a big card and it would be distributed by us and Showtime," Arum said.

The move by Arum to place the fight with Showtime is several maneuvers rolled up into one. The biggest is to show HBO that if he can't get a date for his fighters, he will take them elsewhere.

Clottey lost a unanimous decision to Margarito in 2006. He was easily outboxing Margarito to win the early rounds before suffering a hand injury at which point Margarito took over the contest and threw a record number of punches over the twelve-round contest.

This is on the official WBA page. So, please add the IBF title to your schedule.
