David Price SPOILER

Post by Poncey »

He's losing 2-0 after the first. Again, iffy scoring. Price should've had at least 1 point.

In the amateurs they do seem to stop them early if they get downed a few times, and that was the case here. Price wasnt out out of the fight so you cant say it was a lucky win but I think it was a lucky stoppage he got.

I initially thought it was stopped way to quick, but the Russian was over the second time from not a lot.

His head must have been fizzing still from the first knockdown, so good stoppage in my opinion.

And if you get dropped twice in the same round in the amateurs it would normally be stopped

It's not a hard and fast rule, but I very much doubt you will see a fella continue after he is dropped twice, unless perhaps he is Chinese!

Nice one Pricey!! :TU: I have to say the stoppage was premature, and David himself said as much but another right-hand and it would have been over anyway. Hopefully Khalid can do the business now.

Very good win for David, think you could say he was mildly happy with his win.
Not sure why he shouted 'bastards' in a friendly way to his supporters , but was funny.
As for the stoppage, i think the Russian was ready to continue, but in the Am's they don't like to see 2 knockdowns quickly, so they tend to stop them nowadays. In a bout earlier an Aussie got stopped after 2 quick counts, so maybe that had a bairing on the Russian getting stopped.

Price's opponent in the next round the Lithuanian Jaroslav Jaksto looked like a good boxer, he didn't have much to beat in the inexperienced Nigerian he fought, but did the job well enough. He seemed to have a good range of punches and decent power.

Think he beat Price the last time they met.

Brilliant stuff from Price :)

Commonwealth Gold is one thing, but I had doubts if he could cut the mustard at Olypmic level. Delighted to proved wrong by the big man!

Couldn't have asked for a better start to the competition and his confidence was clearly lifted. Shame about the referee though. Terrible stoppage in my book. He deserved the benefit of the doubt...this is the Olympics for gods sake :x

Onwards and upwards for Pricey :box:

Think he has the skills offensively to do make a good go of medaling... worried about his own punch resistance mind.

I saw him get knocked over a few times by some Welsh guy in the 4 nations a few years back.

That guy in the Commonwealth Semi's (Indian guy) had Price at sea. In Far worst shape than Price's opponent yesterday.
