Pacman turns down Goldie
From f1ghtnews.com
Manny Pacquiao has decided to stay at lightweight and defend his WBC 135-lb crown after turning down an offer by Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) for a Dec. 6 fight in Las Vegas, lawyer Franklin Gacal said in a statement released early Thursday morning. "I have been informed that Oscar De La Hoya is firm with the 70-30 revenue sharing and won't budge in to the 60-40 split we have counter-offered. I find the offer of GBP unconscionable hence unacceptable. It would have been an honor to fight De La Hoya on his last fight capping a very illustrious boxing career but under the circumstances, the option left is to move on. I have already made specific instructions to my lawyer to start negotiating with Bob Arum for my next fight with any possible opponent at 135 lbs," said Pacquiao. Gacal said what Pacquiao wanted was a fair share of the mega fight and apparently, Oscar De La Hoya is making an offer that he knows is unacceptable," Gacal told fightnews.com.It is certain that Pacquiao will face Humberto Soto of Mexico sometime in November in Las Vegas.

Could Margarito actually get the call?! The only other option i think they'd consider is Mora but that would make for an ugly fight. Would they possibly go cap in hand to Floyd?

yipee now dlh can fight margo and pac can spear himself a beating.
Re: Pacman turns down Goldie
Under normal circumstances I would say a 70-30 split is quite fair, because Oscar is so much more of a draw than anyone else. However, with Pacquiao giving up so much weight he has to be compensated for taking such a risk.

I'm not surprised they turned it down - 70/30 seems unfair to me.

I understand what you are saying, but Manny is a big name, a big draw, big attraction fighter. 60-40 is not unreasonable at all, even more so when you consider Manny is moving up in weight. Damn, Oscar is greedy. He's gotta make some sacrifices in order to make the fight. It can't all be one way traffic.ArtOfWar wrote:Under normal circumstances I would say a 70-30 split is quite fair, because Oscar is so much more of a draw than anyone else. The problem is that if Pacquiao says no, there will be a queue of people who would gladly take a 70-30 split.Rocky Balboa wrote:I understand what you are saying, but Manny is a big name, a big draw, big attraction fighter. 60-40 is not unreasonable at all, even more so when you consider Manny is moving up in weight. If the fight takes 20 million thats 6 million you would still take home, huge pay days for nearly every fighter out there, bar perhaps Pacquiao, Hatton and Mayweather.

That's what I'm saying. These are not normal circumstances, so 60-40 is more reasonable than under normal circumstances. Then again 70-30 against DLH is still more than Pacquiao would make against anyone else. This fight does over a million ppv buys easy.Rocky Balboa wrote:I understand what you are saying, but Manny is a big name, a big draw, big attraction fighter. 60-40 is not unreasonable at all, even more so when you consider Manny is moving up in weight. I'd rather the fight not happen though to be honest, because the lightweight division is stacked and i'd rather see the top guy's at 135 all take on each other. We keep seeing the best divisions fall part, because there is so much weight jumping. It would be nice if the top lightweights stay put for awhile.

Stupid idea in the first place.
Take a fighter known for his punching power and put him in with someone much bigger who he couldn't even tickle. His punching power is now not a factor in the fight. Great for the fans hey!

I have a feeling it will still happen....
Re: Pacman turns down Goldie
I agree totally. It was a horrid idea, DLH vs Pac. DLH can't beat world class fighters his own size now, so he picks on a big name much smaller than himself.Kilburn wrote:Stupid idea in the first place.

If GBP are going to fixate on Filipino fighters, why don't they try & develop guys like Banal and Bautista instead of throwing them over their heads in early career world title shots?
Re: Pacman turns down Goldie
Shameful for DLH trying to get Pacquio in the other corner. I think it's unfair for Hatton to fight Manny let alone DLH who is even bigger (than Hatton).
How about Mosely as a goodbye opponent?
Winnable fight for Oscar surely and he could avenge his previous defeats?
Or can they coax Trinidad down to a realistic weight?
Or Mayweather again.
He has to try to avenge one of his defeats in my mind (Hopkins too big for that).

Personally I'm glad this farcical, bonfire of vanities isn't happening. There are far more relavent fights for boxing, this sideshow would only harm boxing, much like Oscar is doing by continuing to fight. If he want's a credible opponent that man is Margarito. As for Pacqiaou, he has the winner of Campbell/Guzman. Both are much better fights for boxing.
