The ref can't tell him to fight?! What is that about?
DCAB - are you referring to the caution a ref gives when a boxer is running and not boxing? Rau'shee was cautioned for this in his 4th round.

Sounds like it was an awful day in Beijing yesterday. I haven't had a chance to watch the bouts, so have no comments (as you all heave a sigh of relief).

I thought Driss Moussaid was really impressive, but the Cuban is schooling him.

I've been impressed with a lot of the North Africans I've seen. They get some international tournament experience, but didn't go to the Worlds for the most part. They must have some good trainers.

Also, it's interesting that the Cubans seem to be immune to any problems with the scoring, as usual. They are on track to lead in medals again, despite supposedly not having a good team. They're just so adaptable and irrepressible, along with having bags of talent. You'd think Laffita and Hernandez would be primed to be beat, but I don't know anymore.

According to friends I know who are very familiar with Cuban boxing, they train to box with computer scoring - get in, throw a straight jab, or a hard (seen) body shot and get out - and come back and do the same thing again. Smart. We could really learn a lot from them.

I have no problem with olympians doing this and if it makes them look bad thats each individuals call. Being the fact that if the olympian knows he got jipped or screwed...In this case Swedish Wrestler Ara Abrahamian got some unfair rulings in his match with Italian Andrea Minguzzi. To the extent he felt he should have won the match and gotten the gold. It was his last match so him expecting to get gold is most likely why he complained but was he right, in my opinion yea. This is what he said, ""I think the semi-final shows that FILA (wrestling's governing body) does not play fair," Abrahamian told reporters. "I didn't deserve to lose." The system is corrupt." It was strange that there were other top wrestlers who got screwed as well that the article mentions so in a way I say Do Something about it, IOC!!
The athlete threw away his bronze medal.

We are not alone!!!!

I just had the feeling that I would see a lot of bias scores towards the chinese fighters and for dam sure I was right, hell it was a no brainer. This is why I HATE the amateurs scoring system.

So the judges are being paid off as they sit down? Since three have lost, they probably aren't giving enough money. :o

It's not that they're paid off, just pressured, maybe even by Aiba reps. I've seen this happen at other tourneys. "very important match for Turkey!!" as they're sitting at the ring waitning for the fighters - and then Sipal has his hand raised after Ugas beat him around the ring for four rounds. No one was allowed on the floor where the rings are, yet there were about 200 Turks around the ring, all the way up to the canvas, yelling and screaming.

In Ireland, it was the Irish fighters getting obvious gift decisions. In Poland, to a much lesser extent, and only a selct couple of fighters, it was the Polish. The English team (still in Poland), while strong and impressive, were getting their points very easily. Other trainers were talking about "Olympic credit" since England is hosting in 2012.

It happens Mel, whether you want to believe it or not.

I do believe it. I just don't think it's happening at the Olympics. You can't get on the floor, let alone near the ring, unless you are the coaches and boxers. Security is extremely tight.

Yes. I know, I saw that too, but isn't that the norm. I didn't think the referee can make a boxer engage, but I read the rule in the AIBA rulebook under Fouls:

12.1.13. Completely passive defense by means of double cover and intentionally falling, running, or turning the back to avoid a blow.

That was very apparent in the 64kg bout between of Roniel IGLESIAS SOTOLONGO (CUB). He boxed beautifully! The thing I like about him was that he kept boxing although he was up by double digit points. It's although the Cubans and Africans don't let scoring determine or alter their game plan or style. I try to make sure I catch all of their boughts.

How is horse riding in the Olympics? The people riding on the horse are not athletes. The horses are though, they should get a medal.

Yeah, that was boxing. . .run and hold ur way to the next round. I agree with Atlas and Papa, the referee was "garbage" and had no backbone. I watched that fight yesterday where boxer received warning for not boxing in the first 30 seconds.
