I seen on the matchroom website that their is welterweight and middleweight tournaments coming soon. Does anyone know who is fighting on them?

A little bird told me that the welterweight Prizefighter will take place at the NEC (now called the LG Arena).
Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
Who will be the welterweights?
Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
Down for October 24. I imagine kevin Anderson will be in it.

I heard one of them might be in Belfast. Would be good to see Willie Thompson involved. The man with the scariest stare in Boxing! 8)

Would be great to see a Prize Fighter at the Kings Hall.steve689 wrote:I heard one of them might be in Belfast. Would be good to see Willie Thompson involved. The man with the scariest stare in Boxing! 8)
Hoprfully we can get Willie in to the Welter weight one (should be sortted soon), Willie was due a run out in Cork in a few weeks but has been pulled from the bill in favour of a few local lads instead. (understandibly as the cost of bring willie and team to Cork is more than 2 local boys who can go home again after the fights) Willie is in great shape and has been working hard on his stare

Wow if Kevin Anderson is in it, and fighters of similar pedigree, it will be nice maybe if the BBBoC recognised the winner and maybe had the winner as the next mandatory for the British.
Actually I am wondering, would health and safety reasons prevent any potential final being a 10/12 round affair - and an official eliminator for the British. Naturally, not for this coming tournament but in future.
It would be a bit like the French system then - though they don't have their cup on the same night.
Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
Reason I say Anderson because he a matchroom fighter also it a way of getting back into mix and good pay
Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
If you wnat to do that you would have to hold the final on another evening, The final can onyl be up to 6 rnds, again depending on the fighter, but say they had fought a 12 rndr before they could fight 3 x 3's twice then one final 6 rnder, but they can only fight 12 rnds in any one night.stujones wrote:leforge wrote:Down for October 24. Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
I know that the welterweight prizefighter will be held in london on 24th October and my friend will be fighting in it (Michael Lomax) along with Ross minter, neil sinclair, craig dickson, ted bami and i think matthew hatton has pulled out. i'm not 100% sure about the other fighters , but the date is correct.

Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
not sure of venue yet but i'm going with my mate to newcastle in couple of weeks for heavyweight prizefighter to meet promoter and find out details. i will post when i know. I may know before then.
Re: Prizefighter welterweights and middleweights
I can understand what you're saying but from the sound of things the quality of competitors will be much higher at Welterweight and it will be great to see some established names going hell for leather over the shorter distance. Should produce as much fireworks as the heavyweights.funso banjo baby wrote:i dont like the little guys getting in on the action

I doubt Sinky willl be involved in this ? going from Euro title championship fights to welter weight prize fighter ? I thought the idea was to keep the prize fighter for the up and comming fighters not the ex-champs that are still fighting (and Sinky is a mate so no disrespect)

These names have apparently been confirmed:
Michael Lomax
Ted Bami
Neil Sinclair
Craig Dickson
Ross Minter
Mark Lloyd
and two others who I cannot remember.
The venue is looking like the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley.
