the sex myth!
the sex myth!
is this true or jutt a myth about having sex close to fighting..if so how long do u go without?
Re: the sex myth!
Not to get too into detail but usally after someone has sex they are very tired and feel "spent" if you know what I mean, so if someone has sex like 30 minutes before a bout maybe it could have an effect, but I really doubt it would make much of a difference.
Re: the sex myth!
thanks canada..im not really talkin about 30 minuts before..i meant more like the same week or month..i've heard a few ppl say they go 2-3 months w/o it..

Acutally, one of my favorite shows SportsScience, studied this myth with boxer Chris Byrd. Pretty interesting and funny. It's a really, really great show. If you don't want to watch, they dispelled the myth pretty thoroughly. Any negative effects are probably psychosomatic.

What'd they do; give him a Playboy, send him into the bathroom, then have him spar?DCAmateurBoxing wrote:Acutally, one of my favorite shows SportsScience, studied this myth with boxer Chris Byrd. Sent him to a hotel room with his wife, and he came back 4hrs later. Then ran a battery of tests (before and after) including testing his testosterone to make sure he didn't sandbag the baseline testing. The show is really great and using science to meausure all sorts of myths and situations in sports. I love it.Kolya wrote:What'd they do; give him a Playboy, send him into the bathroom, then have him spar?DCAmateurBoxing wrote:Acutally, one of my favorite shows SportsScience, studied this myth with boxer Chris Byrd. Re: the sex myth!
I'm not sure it disproved anything by watching Chris' last fight. I think the show convinced him that he could do whatever he wanted and it showed in the ring. Oscar claims to go without for long periods before his bouts and maybe that is why he wants to retire soon!
Have you seen his wife? If I was him, I would have already retired.
It may be a mental thing with making a boxer very determined because he is sacrificing something and make him "mean". I think you can tell with many boxers if they have had sex within 24 hours of sparring or competing. If it goes more than a couple of days, I'm not sure it makes a difference, but I recommend avoiding it for the last couple of days before competition to be safe.

No, I blame his last fight on Mrs. Byrd. Chris shouldn't be boxing and definitely not as the 'skinny' version of his former self. I haven't seen Oscar's wife, but I saw his cute pictures. . . I would have retired after thatDennis wrote:I'm not sure it disproved anything by watching Chris' last fight. I don't think it really matters and a lot of elite athletes (NBA, NFL) say the same thing. Come on, do you really think Tiger Woods believes this? I seriously doubt it. :)Dennis wrote:It may be a mental thing with making a boxer very determined because he is sacrificing something and make him "mean". Re: the sex myth!
I'm sure Joe Calzaghe said that he doesn't usually have sex in the run up to a fight, but against Jeff Lacy he did, a couple of days before. Funnily enough, it was possibly his best performance.

Because it made him all loose and relaxed. I think Lacy might have still been a virgin at that point

Re: the sex myth!
its all to do with testosterone...
once u bust a nut, ure T levels drop..and we all know that high T levels make a man more aggressive, focused etc etc...
so itd probably be best to get close to the point of ejaculation just to get the T pumping thru the veins but not actually bust...
then go take care of your business in the ring and you'll be a fcuking animal.
