What a diabolical liberty! Since when do we pay PPV fees to watch a bloody young prospect?
I won't be forking out to watch this old shit that's for certain.

I believe it was Bruno v Tyson II that was their first PPV.King Tubby wrote:Didn't they test the water with Bruno/McCall? I remember when SKY was first launched, and the idea of paying for something other than the TV license was seen as outrageous. Mind you, They've always been sharp fuckers. They collared football, which still drives their subscription today.
But back to boxing: I missed fights such as Tyson-Douglas, because my parents wouldn't get SKY. I managed to see most of the Lewis/Hamed PPV era, because enough people were interested, and me and my fellow students could pile round. I've paid for (most) of the Hatton shows, because I have my own house, and can afford it now. In fact, I've bought some right shite on PPV. But I have to draw the line at this. I really think SKY are overestimating the number of Khan fans. I hope this bombs.

It was Tyson vs. Holyfield.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I believe it was Bruno v Tyson II that was their first PPV.
Regarding Hatton and Khan, they're both pretty major household names, but only one has a well-travelled fanbase.

Hilarious
Like to see Frank manage keep a straight face as he sells this bag o shite.
I can only imagine Sky are banking on a big Khan Asian fan base out there, willing to shell out for PPV, even when their man is facing a Colombian zombie. No one else will be paying for this.
And you can be 100% sure this guy is a bum - no way does FW put his vunerable golden goose in with an undefeated (ahem) "KO artist", without having first hand info that the guy is useless.
Othewise, why would he make the fight?
Along with the fake WBO fight, Sky should be paying us to watch this puppet show.

I think it tells us the fight will be over rather quickly and anyone dithering about whether to buy should now see its money down the drain. To be honest I hadnt realised how poor this guys opposition was, I just saw he hadnt fought anyone with a name. Khan winning is as certain as Monday follows Sunday so why bother when you know 100% who will win. Warren is doing a Calzaghe/Manfredo Macca/Gunn so boycot the fight and let them know we dont want this shit. Never mind this Prescott being tall, having a punch, Khan will have no trouble at all stopping him. Dont bet on a first round stoppage though, they will try to make the twat look more credible than he actually is. Rnds 2 or 3 maybe.Old bones Ian wrote:Good report on Prescott's last fight.

Obviously the astute bods at Sky Box Office wouldn't put this on if it was going to be an outright bomb. They're banking on some demographic to purchase it, though I don't know who.

Doesn't matter if we all boycott this PPV, whats 30 people against 100,000 who will buy it. we need the papers turn against Warren trying to sell this as competitive

I can't believe in these economically straightened times that Sky are charging their customers an extra £15 to watch what is essentially a good Friday Fight Night bill. A quick canvass round the 50 - 60 people at my cricket club last night showed that at least five are considering cancelling their Sk contracts as a result.

Warren has his deal with the Sun, and with their readership numbers he has a big head start. Can't wait to read their write up on how "dangerous" Prescott is

If they were looking for a dangerous foe, Felix Lora might have been a good one. He was supposed to replace John Fewkes, to fight John Murray, last May. Never happened, ultimately. Lora had a close defeat to Devon Alexander, and someone from Spain was telling me how fast and strong he was.

Thanks Ant, I was sure I was right, but couldn't be arsed to check.Ant Evans wrote:Sky's first PPV was Bruno v Tyson II and in terms of buy rate it remained the No.1 UK PPV until Hatton v Mayweather fight.
This is gonna be the first Sky PPV I don't buy, got to be honest. No way is this worth £15.
Didn't realise that it was number one all that time!

I am an Alex Arthur fan so I will be buying this.

To use a comparison somebody's already made, McNeeley was taller than Tyson, and could knock people out.Asterix wrote:It's good to see that he's as tall as, or taller than, Khan. It's also good to see that he can knock people out.

What do you reckon Sky would call good business for the fight.
75,000 buys generates more than 1.1 million.

No, Bruno-McCall was on Sky Sports. Bruno-Tyson 2 was Britain's first boxing PPV.King Tubby wrote:Didn't they test the water with Bruno/McCall? I seem to remember them doubting whether or not the British public would entertain it. The thinking was if they buy the fight, they'll buy football etc...

Not to mention that the fight report posted earlier on in this thread specifically expresses concern at the fact the guy had an impressive KO record, yet failed to KD "former Cuban amateur standout" Richard Abril (I've never heard of him as a standout, and I follow Cuban boxing).oliverfennell wrote:To use a comparison somebody's already made, McNeeley was taller than Tyson, and could knock people out.Asterix wrote:It's good to see that he's as tall as, or taller than, Khan. it said he only had 100 so there is chance he was making the international set up with only 100boutsGray-Fox wrote:Not to mention that the fight report posted earlier on in this thread specifically expresses concern at the fact the guy had an impressive KO record, yet failed to KD "former Cuban amateur standout" Richard Abril (I've never heard of him as a standout, and I follow Cuban boxing).oliverfennell wrote:To use a comparison somebody's already made, McNeeley was taller than Tyson, and could knock people out.Asterix wrote:It's good to see that he's as tall as, or taller than, Khan. Spot on, Ian. But they won't and it's embarrassing. This is when you need proper boxing men on papers prepared to say it's not worth buying.Old bones Ian wrote:Doesn't matter if we all boycott this PPV, whats 30 people against 100,000 who will buy it. we need the papers turn against Warren trying to sell this as competitive
Boxing News, as a trade paper, has a responsibility to say that this really isn't worth buying.
Harry Mullen would have tore the execs a new a-hole.
