I do plan on keeping busy. Gotta get one of my spurts going. I'm wanting the PABA title, and also I would like a match with Hoppa or Big Bob and move on up the ladder in this part of the World.

Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
good article, but i always thought australia was 'down under' :P
Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
That's kinda the funny thing... I always thought New Zealand was apart of Aussie!toppity wrote:good article, but i always thought australia was 'down under' :P
Oh did I find out the hard way that it wasn't. Before I came I asked the promoter if it was apart of Aussie and he just laughed and laughed.

Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
Now you are the champion of a country Chauncy - do you think it would be more beneficial
to you and your career if you settled down in NZ full time and fought out of Auckland?
Also are you now eligble for a shot at the Commonwealth heavyweight title?

Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
I have citisenship in NZ now, and I would be honored to fight for the Commonwealth title. It is a title I want, and I am basing myself more out of New Zealand now than in the States, only all my family is in the States, so I gotta keep up there quite a bit.
I love New Zealand and the people who live here, and when my boxing is done and my girlfriend is ready to come, I'm gonna live in NZ full time.
Who is the Commonwealth Champion?

I think you are a great heir to the NZ heavyweight title, it has had some great champions and has a great history - one of the oldest
national heavyweight title belts in world boxing if I'm right.
Once all your family visit you in NZ they will all want to surely live there!
Matt Skelton (I think) is still the Commonwealth heavyweight champion - I think that would be a good fight for you! Good luck mate!
Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
What about the OPBF title, Its being fought for between Nathan Briggs and Colin Wilson. Would be a good fight for you against either and would give you a rating with the WBC. There are some good matchups for you in Australia.Chauncy wrote:Thanks. Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
couldn't agree more ben k. fighting bob or hoppa would get you nowhere fast. best bet is winner of briggs/wilson and as ben said there a a couple of aussie matchups that would be crackers, dominator, tuasa and leapai for a start.ben k wrote:What about the OPBF title, Its being fought for between Nathan Briggs and Colin Wilson. Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
I plan on defending the NZ title as much as possible, but know there is a shortage of competition. I really wanna do right by this title and get it going again. Heard that Kipa Tasefa wants his title back and is thinking of a comeback because, "The title belongs to the Kiwis!" A bit of info for him... I am a KIWI! I got the government saying I am too. He can train and make a comeback though. I would accomodate him on his challenge. Like I said, gotta liven it up around here.
The OPBF is also a title I have in my sights. Col or Briggs would be perfect for me to fight on a big November show we have down here. The OPBF is a strong title, and it really is hard to pick between the WBO Asia Pacific, IBF Pan Pacific, OPBF, and PABA on which title I want to fight for first.
Should Colin Wilson beat Briggs again, he has shown interst in fighting everybody, and I would love to fight him for his OPBF title. Me and Colin would be a good fight, and the winner would move on to much better things.
My plan though is to hopefully get the winner of Hoppa and Big Bob. The NZ Champ vs. the OZ Champ is always fun! I have my thoughts on who will win, but nobody really knows until fight night. I am ready and willing for both guys, and November is a date being looked at for a big fight for me here in NZ. Maybe we can do that for the Commonwealth???
I've talked with a couple promoters about me fighting in OZ. It looks good for me to end up over there by years end. We've spoken with a couple promoters, but I like Barry Michael. He's a cool guy, and it would be an honor to fight on one of his promotions.

Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
I'm sorry to break some bad news Chauncy but you aren't the first American born
NZ heavyweight champion as Dick Matthews has beaten you to that honour by
a good 126 years

One good thing you can say though is you are following tradition! 8)

Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
Matthews weighed over 75kgs only a handful of times in his career. In this day in age he'd be a Middleweight/Super-Middleweight. And yes i do realise people were alot smaller in the late 1800's, so point taken!
Chauncy is the glue that holds the New Zealand boxing scene together between Shane Cameron fights, and even then he ends up fighting on Cameron's shows and stealing the show!

Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
It would be good to see you fight Demori here in Perth. At least i could see you fight live and get a bit more Judging in.

Its more that Matthews held (or was the firsr Kiwi heavyweight champion) the title rather than his size, it is a good fact to bring up if any smart arse journo/fan wants to have a go regarding Chauncy's 'Kiwi' credentials!
Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
Good fact finding. I looked and couldn't find anybody. I should have looked at the first Champion, and the reason I didn't was because I thought there was no way an American would be this far back then! My bad.Carlos-Wigan wrote:N2 Shape wrote:Matthews weighed over 75kgs only a handful of times in his career. In this day in age he'd be a Middleweight/Super-Middleweight. Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
If you get the OPBF you should give Pieter Cronje a shot at it.
Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
Oh I would. He's been winning some good fights and I hear he's the goods, although I must beat Colin Wilson for the title first, and that is no easy task.Marlin wrote:If you get the OPBF you should give Pieter Cronje a shot at it.
Another fighter I would like to fight is Briggs, and should he beat Colin, it would make that fight that much sweeter to fight.
Re: Welliver vs. Tai Story
Cronje is a good fighter, Ive seen him a few times and he has good skills. You could have some top matchups here in Aus and you could make a name for yourself in this part of the world.
