Larry beat Primo Carnera in this country. I knew Carnera wrestled after his boxing career came to an end (and made more money than he ever did as a boxer, given he was controlled by mobsters when fighting), so put two and two together.

Larry beat Primo Carnera in this country. I knew Carnera wrestled after his boxing career came to an end (and made more money than he ever did as a boxer, given he was controlled by mobsters when fighting), so put two and two together.

That's right, Im just on the last few pages of the book 'Primo, The Story Of Man Mountain Carnera' by Frederic Mullally.

How he was used and abussed is quite sickening, the book itself is quite interesting and seems well written, but it does leave me with a few questions that I intend to post on this Furom over the next few days.

It meant they had to pay off an awful lot of opponents then. He won 87 of 103 fights.

According to the Carnera book I'm reading Leon See years after the event admitted that about 60% of Carnera's fights up to 1931 were fixed. After that they were legit results.

That's stiil a lot of fighters to pay-off.
