Good job Alp. Couldn't help noticing though, that you have Battling Nelson listed with 4 votes and then under 1 vote.

Hate to be a nitpicker again, but I believe you and I both picked Sammy Mandell.

Thanks Seamus. I changed both of them. It was a little more difficult to total up this time. There was a record 107 fighters that got atleast one vote! Last time there was only 85. The time before that, there was only 73.

It was excellent, as all the votes, as always

It's very good the crescendo of the fighters voted

Thanks all the voters, especially Ambling, Seamus, Raylawpc, Ezzard, Expug, Giacomino and BoxBuzz

It's a very good new to have Nicolino Locche, Manuel Ortiz and John L. Sullivan in the HOF!

I proud in the next to see boys like Jose Carattoli, Jorge Fernandez, Battling Battalino, Sixto Escobar and others

From here on out there will be a lot of guys with one vote. That is good though, many different opinions and evey one is an advertisement for future ballots.

I can't help but feel responsible for George Dixon not making it.

Just thought I would tally the Fighters that have been elected by weight class:

Heavyweight (11)
Lightheavyweight (9)
Middleweight (14)
Jr Middleweight (1)
Welterweight (10)
Jr Welterweight (2)
Lightweight (8)
Jr Lightweight (1)
Featherweight (6)
Jr Featherweight (1)
Bantamweight (6)
Super Flyweight (1)
Flyweight (2)

There have been a total of 72 fighters elected so far. Of course many fighters fought in multiple weight classes so I had to make some judgement calls regarding which weight class to place them in. Nevertheless, I think this gives us a good idea.

Of course the "Jr" Weight classes haven't been around as long and often fighters haven't stayed at them for long anyway.

Does it look like we are representing the various weight classes fairly?

All except flyweight, perhaps.

As you said, the junior/super weight classes haven't been around for nearly as long, so they figure to have less.

Alp, it's great that you do this... I would like to make a request. In future when you list those already in could you please list all members in their weight divisions rather than alphabetically? It would really help with making selections. Hope this sin't going to be a problem. Big thanks again.

Kid Lewis got 7 votes to Britton's 6... Seems that Ted is getting the better of their latest rivalry...

Yeah, but neither Lewis nor Kid Berg were voted in. I blame antisemitism!

Not a good argument. We voted Benny Leonard, Barney Ross and Abe Attell in sometime ago. On the other hand, we've only got 2 Asians. I've had Pancho Villa on my last several ballots for.

Yes, I can do that next time. Remind me if I forget. :D

As for the weight classes, I think it's a little surprising that there isn't an overabundance of heavyweights elected. (There are actually more middleweights that have been elected.)
It's seems like we spend atleast 75% of our time talking about heavyweights.
When we first started this Hall of Fame, my first concern was that half of the guys elected would be heavyweights.

Perhaps it's because heavyweights get held up to more scrutiny? I mean they get bashed more frequently as well. People seldom rip many fighters in smaller weight classes.

As for the flyweights, well I guess that's not too surprising that only two have made it. They have never got much recognition. I don't think I have ever seen a Flyweight fight on "ESPN Classic" or see as flyweight fight on TV nowadays for that matter. Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson used to be on HBO once in awhile and was a great little fighter. However, that has been the exception to the rule.

Who knows, perhaps great flyweights like Pancho Villa, Fidel LaBarba or Miguel Canto will get elected soon.

It is nice to see that a decent number of bantamweights, featherweights, lightweights, and welterweights that have been elected.

I think some people are fooled by the amount of his losses. Almost all were either early in his career (He was thrown to the wolves) or when he well past his best at the end of his career.

He had 34 wins over Top 10 Opponents.
Ortiz defended his title 15 times before finally losing it. Then he defended it
another time 5 times in his 2nd reign as champion.

yeah, from the record it looked like that. many early losses, many late
losses, yet he did not fight that long. but ring time is different. thnx
for the clarification.
