have women ever been able to compete in the olympics boxing? if not i thinks thats pretty lame not to allow them if they us men to compete in boxing..if they allow womens basketball, soccer, volleyball then why not boxing? idk i think that would maybe give us better chances to be successful in US boxing..

I believe they were an "exhibition" in St. Louis in 1904......

Weights in men's boxing will have to be dropped, or combined, in order to make room. We'll see how that pans out.

How? We do well in women's boxing, however the Russians, Canadians, Indians and Korean female teams are very tough, as is Ireland. In last year's Women's World Championships, the Indians received 4 gold medals, the Russians, 3. The U.S. got 2 silver. Considering the women's program didn't start until 1994 in the U.S., and has only had 4 World Championships, we aren't doing too badly.

When you look at who we've been sending to women's worlds; it's not exactly a surprise. Either way I think women's boxing should be included. They can make some room for it; from what I remember it's the only Olympic sport that doesn't have a female counterpart to the men's. It would give girls like Katie Taylor something else to shoot for, too.

It's up to AIBA to make room and to the IOC to allow inclusion.

i didnt think baseball or softball should've been in to begin with lol..the US women are very dominant, but im not a fan of base/softball..if it aint boxing, basketball, or track & field in the olympics then i really aint trying to see it lol..i wont lie tho that football would be nice to see in the olympics, but that would never happen unless they make the olympics extra long lol..

I mean our Women's world team certainly isn't the best; especially not when I see them compared to even the girls from Canada, much less Europe. I was always surprised India had such a good women's boxing team though.

We're also pretty much the only country that likes or plays football; Rugby is more of a global sport.

Boxing is already a sport so it wouldn't take up softball or baseball's spots. In order to include women's boxing, AIBA will have to drop some men's weight classes to make room.

They are our best and earn that spot through advancing tournaments. :D

Me, too. They are relatively new to women's boxing and have come up very fast.

Or maybe the IOC could just do the right thing and include women's boxing as it's own sport with it's full weight classes so that there's actually equality and parity between women and men. Women work just as hard; if not harder, than most men at this sport because they have to do even more to get the respect they deserve; they deserve to be able to go to the Olympics without it effecting men's boxing.

Yes, Cheryl Houlihan truly earned her spot against Amaris Quintana this year. Same with Francheon Crews. She wins though; so what can you do.
