Joe "Baby" Mesi...a lesson to be noted
Joe "Baby" Mesi...a lesson to be noted
Amid the rampant overprotection carried out in this country, America's Joe Mesi has taken on Monte Barrett and Vassiliy Jirov in his last two fights. Okay, he struggled to finish both fights, but finish he did, win he did - and he'll have learned more from those two fights than a dozen knockover jobs.
You'll see a much improved Joe "Baby" Mesi in his next fight as a result. It's a lesson to be noted by many of our own matchmakers.

I think you'd have to give him a good chance.REAL_DEAL wrote:what happens if he steps into the ring with tyson this year?bennie wrote:Amid the rampant overprotection carried out in this country, America's Joe Mesi has taken on Monte Barrett and Vassiliy Jirov in his last two fights. yeah but if they are serious about him being a future champ, they have to progress him against tougher opposition who he will learn stuff against, but at the same time not lose. They have done that very well, but yes, i think the last 2 fights have shown his limitations.Kevo wrote:But these fights have also exposed him to a certain extent aswell.

There isn't an exclamation mark big enough to respond to this comment.bennie wrote:I think you'd have to give him a good chance.REAL_DEAL wrote:what happens if he steps into the ring with tyson this year?bennie wrote:Amid the rampant overprotection carried out in this country, America's Joe Mesi has taken on Monte Barrett and Vassiliy Jirov in his last two fights. That Cruiserweight was in excellent shape, and had to rally back after taking some horrendous punishment early on.
Tyson will probably not be in shape, and as we all know, does not react well these days to being put on the back foot.
The two things in Tyson's favour however, are that he has an excellent chin, and Mesi has a piss poor one.
Tyson has a good shot if he gets in shape, but that is a big big if.

Mesi showed exactly the same major flaw (shitty stamina) against Jirov as he did against Barrett.... so even if he did learn a lot from the Monte fight he couldnt rectify the problem that was recognised....
He tried to drop weight to improve his stamina but it didnt work.... so iam not convinced he learnt a great deal that he can convert into an improved performance

Tyson was in pretty good shape against Ettiene by his recent standards. I think that Tyson beats Mesi. He seems pretty positive on the interview at max boxing, if he can get fit like he says he is going to start trying to, then i would pick him to beat Mesi in 5 rounds.jamesmcdonnell wrote:That Cruiserweight was in excellent shape, and had to rally back after taking some horrendous punishment early on.

Yes, the two fights have told us everything about Mesi. He's tough, capable and susceptible in the later rounds. He'll also grit his teeth and hang in there when hurt. That's the great thing about matching someone tough. You get the full story, as does the fighter himself. Mesi will now work on the weaknesses exposed and next time out should look much better.

He didn't beat Barrett. He "got the decision", and a dubious one at that. Mesi beat Barrett in the same way that Jones "beat" Tarver...bennie wrote:Amid the rampant overprotection carried out in this country, America's Joe Mesi has taken on Monte Barrett and Vassiliy Jirov in his last two fights. Mesi is a bum. End of.
that is true, i just dont think he CAN improve his stamina to the level it needs to be if he is gonna make it....bennie wrote:Mesi will now work on the weaknesses exposed and next time out should look much better.
he knew after Barrett he had a problem, came in lighter but still couldnt hang late on.....

yup, Baby is the most overrated heavyweight boxer nowadays. he wouldn´t be able to beat Luan Krasniqi, who is absolutely underrated.Loftgroov wrote:He didn't beat Barrett. Lets not forget Williamson although it ended early was considered a tough test (many pundits went for touch of sleep).
Mesi might not look a future world champion but obviously has a fair amount of confidence about his abilities, and so has his manager.
I would have said that Williams and Harrison both had more talent than he, but he is the one going places - he deserves a top ten ranking now.

i'm going to do a Buncey and boast a bit, but i predicted a 1st round KO for Mesi in that fight at another website. People who were picking Williamson were doing so on the basis of his impressive KO record. I'd seen TOS a couple of times, and knew he couldn't take a punch. That was a good fight to hype Mesi up, cos the opponent on paper looked better than he was in reality.stujones wrote:Lets not forget Williamson although it ended early was considered a tough test (many pundits went for touch of sleep).
