The ABA

Post by twenty six »

Just what is in the minds of the people who run this organisation ?
OK it's not been the best of Olympics for our lads so far, but we've got three through to the final stages.
Just when the team needs to focus, what do the ABA do ?
Announce a suspension for Billy Joe Saunders for an alleged incident in a training camp months before the games started.
Great move guys.
Let's spoon feed the media with a great storyline to pull our sport down even further.
Great move to upset the lads still in the tournament.
FFS this organisation is to PR what Saddam Hussain was to world peace.

Frankie Gavin could have learned a thing or two from this kid in that case.

Sounds like a load of nonsense to me, at worst high spirits, the boys need to lets off steam they are under pressure, looks like it's been blown well out of proportion.
So they are going to give him a lengthy ban, all that will do is force him to turn pro, more lottery funding down the drain

Had a scan of WarriorBoxing. Some remarks:

"I've put in an official complaint. The video did not appear on Warrior Boxing. I've been tracking the media closely over the last couple of weeks and this article has more to do with manipulation of the media by those who wish to discredit Terry Edwards than Billy Joes reportedly innappropriate remarks to a French maid."

"I haven't seen it but am told that Billy Joe made innappropriate comments to one of the workers in a french hotel thinking that she didn't understand English."

Retort from Team GB:

"Today, Team GB's Chef de Mission Simon Clegg found himself in the unusual position of having to accuse one of his sport's governing bodies of effectively attempting to undermine themselves.

Clegg said: "The Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) choosing to yesterday (Wednesday) issue Billy Joe Saunders with a suspension relating to an incident which happened months before the Beijing Olympic Games is extremely disappointing.

"Releasing such allegations to the media at this time could prove detrimental to the critical preparations of the other three boxers who will be contesting to reach the final of the boxing competition tomorrow.

"We are frustrated that our athletes and the boxing coaching team will have to deal with this added pressure and distraction at this point in the Games. Nobody involved with boxing should be distracting the team at this time."
