I wonder if Jones would manage to knock Floyd down, before losing?
Well done.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic but I doubt Floyd walks over Roy Jones Jr...witherspoon wrote:Yes, agreed.adamheight wrote:patterson KO8TheOneIsHere2008 wrote:Who do you have?

I was being sarcastic in the sense that Floyd seemed to get knocked down whenever he was in a competitive fight - i can't see Roy failing to deck him.
I think Floyd wins, but not easily, and not by a wide margin if it goes all the way.

Roy was a very good fighter... A few of his antics were over the top but this has to be one of the funniest moments in ring history:witherspoon wrote:I was being sarcastic in the sense that Floyd seemed to get knocked down whenever he was in a competitive fight - i can't see Roy failing to deck him.

At 190 Floyd is fighting at a weight where he has become comfortable...Jones is at a weight he rarely fights at...
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
jones picks patterson apart.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
This is hard to pick...I think Patterson wins, but just.
He is knocked down early in the action, but manages
to spurt his way to victory when he does smother and
catch RJJ.
It will be very hard for Floyd to catch up with RJJ who
pecks away and moves fast behind his constant jab.
This could go either way in my mind, but seeing as I
am a big Patterson fan I am going to say he wins a
close decision.

Patterson would be too strong for the great Roy Jones, Jr. Patterson is not a GOOFY GOOFY GUY like John Ruiz.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
Patterson would be far too strong.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190

Assuming that Jones would actually take this fight (and he wouldn't) Patterson would win this.
For once, Jones wouldn't have the huge hand speed advantage.
He is going to get hit as much as he did against Glen Johnson and Tarver. Only this time against someone who can hit a lot harder.
Patterson wouldn't have to worry about Jones' "power" at all. This isn't Sonny Liston or Ingemar Johansson. If Moore,Chuvalo,Quarry, Bonavena etc. can't stop Patterson, there is no way that Roy Jones is going to.
Doubtful that Jones lasts 5 rounds.

Patterson stops Jones mid to late after action packed early rounds. If Tarver and Johnson could put Roy to sleep I don't see any reason why a fighter of Patterson's caliber (faster hands + more power) wouldn't be able to do it either.

I do believe he was a bit past it for Tarver and Johnson...Prime RJJ is undefeated...
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
If your talking prime Vs Prime then Jones wins UD or KO. Jones would pick him apart and win on the scorecards at least 9-3.

Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
There is no way that Patterson would get ko'd by Jones. Jones hit many incompetent lightheavyweights at will and couldn't stop them. Bonavena,Quarry,Moore, Chuvalo could hit a lot harder than Jones and they couldn't stop Patterson.
Jones punches wouldn't have any effect on Patterson at all.
When I said that Jones would be getting hit as often as he did against Tarver, and Johnson, I realize Jones was past it by then. (Jones wasn't undefeated during his prime. He lost once.)
I'm saying that Patterson would land on a prime Jones as often as Tarver and Johnson did against a fading Jones. He had the hand speed and boxing ability to do this.
Against Patterson, Jones wouldn't be able to just rely on his handspeed advantage because Patterson would have atleast as fast as handspeed as Jones.
For the first time time in his career, Jones would be against someone that can match his speed. Not only that, Patterson has much more power than anyone Jones ever fought and knows how to box better than anyone Jones ever fought.
The first left hook that Patterson landed would probably end this.

Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
Patterson has the speed to catch Jones more then anyone at this weight and he has a lot of power. I think Floyd would stop Roy in the mid rounds.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
Jones has no chance in this one.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
It's topics like this that really make me appreciate this forum, although I read a lot more than I post. I remember long running arguments on boxingtime with swathes of people convinced that Jones would toy with and then ko Lennox Lewis.
btw, Jones runs from Patterson and survives till round five, six or so and gets sparked against the ropes.

Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
if this was going to be an actual fight, i'd like to see how much money you guys would put on patterson. i'm willing to bet it wouldn't be much. jones wins this easy.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
If I gambled I would put it on Patterson. But I am a Patterson
fan so I am very biased.

Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
A really polarised thread... Interesting stuff...
Problem for me here is that I don't see what Jones has to make this difficult for Floyd. Maybe Roy concentrates on trying to make him miss early on... Maybe he gets himself into the middle rounds by being cautious, but even if he has some success Floyd lands and wins.
IMO the difference between Paterson and Floyd's very best opponent (take your pick of any of them) is a whole lot more than the difference between our prime Roy and the one who was split in two by Tarver and Johnson.
And unlike Robinson I don't really rate Floyd that highly.

If the odds reflected the polarised opinions here I'd be willing to take a decent punt on Paterson.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Floyd Patterson At A Catch Weight Of 190
I'd bet every liquid dollar I had on Patterson.
