Girard retained the WBA 175 lb title on scores of 116-114, 116-112 and 116-112. The champion was well ahead after ten and knew it and coasted in the final two, which made the scoring closer than it was. Hansvoll, a southpaw, landed with good lefts in the first and seemed to wobble Girard, who´s a notorious slow starter. At the end of second the Frenchman had received enough wakeup calls and began to retaliate scoring with short bursts of punches. Girard isn´t much of a puncher and it appears he don´t even try to load up on them but he´s a good boxer with an awkward upright style. He was again stunned by a left in the third but upped the pace after that and his workrate was too much for Hansvoll, who stopped using his left in the fifth (he complained about a sore elbow after the fight). Injured or not, Hansvoll came out smoking in the sixth but by now Girard was in full swing and beat the challenger to the punch. The Norwegian was cut by the right eye and bled from the nose and mouth as well but kept smiling. Having followed Hansvoll throughout his career it´s clear that this is a fighter who needs to get psyched up in order to perform well. Trainer Harald Skog, who came along just before the first Klemetsen fight apparently have the key. At the end of some rounds Hansvoll looked ready to go but came out full of fire for the next round. It wasn´t enough though and after ten everybody knew he needed a KO to pull it out. Hansvoll can punch harder than his record suggests but isn´t a major league puncher and Girard have a sound chin. An exciting fight - made even more exciting for Scandinavian viewers thanks to the hilarious comments from Ronald Larsen and Ake Unger - ended with Girard a clear winner although some of the crowd bood. Hansvoll made the most of the WBA ratings department´s generousity and was met with cheers.

There were no bidders for today´s purse offers in Manchester for WBO cruiser champ Johnny Nelson´s mandatory defence against Norwegian Thomas Hansvoll. The fight might go ahead if the fighters involved accept the minimi purse bid set by the WBO of 150 000 USD to be split 80-20 in favour of the champion. Originally, Sports Network, who promotes Nelson and Modern Sports & Events had an agreement to have Nelson take on Hansvoll in Scandinavia but it fell through due to a well publicized disagreement on the purse between MSE and Hansvoll - a dispute that appears to still lingers and may kill this fight.

Yes, he is not satisfied with the money. I think he was offered $55000 but Im not 100% sure.

Bell has a chance at a more respected title, mind you he may see Nelson as an easier option, but i thimnk he'll prefer to fight for the WBC title.stujones wrote:O Neill Bell!!!!!
I would take my hat off if Nelson beat him - I'd be off to the bookies and place big money on the American.
Wasn't Nelson's last fight against a mandatory, so he should be okay for a while.
