Just re-watched this fight, while the outcome was in many ways
expected, this was such an exciting though brief battle between
both of these guys.
I was suprised at how big Norton seemed to be compared to
Quarry. I loved Jerry's left hooks to the body. Both men would
have been very sore after this fight. Highly entertaining and almost
a perfect summary of Jerry Quarry as a fighter.

I don't know how it could be a perfect summary of Quarry as a fighter considering he was very chubby and simply past his best as a fighter by that point. His reflexes had slipped and he thought he could bomb out Norton considering talk of Norton's weak chin (which Ken proved wrong in this fight) Norton's best fight ever IMO . . .he shows a great arsenal of punches, work-rate, handspeed, jab, and takes some big shots from Quarry and comes right back.
Quarry's fights with Foster, Lyle, Spencer and even Frazier sum up Quarry more than Norton.

Dempsey...did you mean to say that Norton's showing against a "past it" Quarry was Norton's "Best Fight"?
I'm not making light of it, I just wanted to be sure I got your meaning here.

What I meant is that though the fight was brief he gave it his all, showed he had
a big heart, good skills, he mixed it up well but was in the end out classed by a
better man.
I am aware that he was not in his best shape, but this was almost like an example
of Quarry. Falling short of the big time, losing to the guys just a bit above him.

Not his best victory, but his best performance. I can't think of a fight in which Norton looks as good.BoxBuzz wrote:Dempsey...did you mean to say that Norton's showing against a "past it" Quarry was Norton's "Best Fight"?

I must agree Norton took hard shots and showed a pretty
versatile array of shots with this fight. I was impressed
with Norton in this one. I seldom watch his fights and think
wow Norton is a gun...
Its a fun bang fest to watch.
