Felix Ramirez twice

Post by Colin »

We have two of these. One a lightweight from San Jose, the other I have just entered as a featherweight from New York (1948 Ring Record Book). The one from San Jose has two fights against Lauro Salas (30 Sept and 25 Nov 1947). These in the 1948 RRB are in their (New York) Felix record. This Felix fought on the East Coast in 1945 and 1946, when he has just the one bout listed, and after that exclusively in California with 13 of 17 bouts in 1947 in San Jose. Therefore there would seem little doubt they are in fact the one fighter. Could some on check the 1949 or 1950 RRB and see if the Salas bout is in the record of Felix Ramirez of San Jose. If so I will combine the records.

An article in Sept 49 Ring Magazine has the Ramirez from San Jose, CA that fought Sandy Saddler turning pro in 1947 with a 2nd round KO of Hal Lee and having a record of 35 fights (after beating Ermano Bonetti in 1949), losing 5, one by KO early in his career (Lauro Salas?) .
I think the record can be combined with a couple of exceptions: the 1945-1946 fights on the East Coast seem to belong to another Ramirez. The Jerry Ramsey fight seems to belong to the San Jose Ramirez, but the date is questionable (it's before his supposed pro debut).
I think its a bit odd that Ring magazine overlooked a recent KO loss to Jim Rooney, but I think it's unlikely that another Felix Ramirez was fighting in Connecticut at the time.

San Jose Ramirez turns pro in 1947, and has 7 fights on the East Coast in 1949 (Feb. 14 to May 31). The other Felix Ramirez is also in the 1950 RRB, with 3 fights, all loses, listed.

I suppose the 1947-1-7 Ramsey fight through the 1947-11-4 Park Glenn fights can be moved then?
