A couple of names on the shortlist are Alex Dimitrenco , Sultan Ibragimov.

Despite a poor showing against Klitschko, Ibragimov would be a brave move for such an early fight in the new division.

I would think he is unlikely to get the booking to be honest.

Surely they want some with more kudos than form, a tall immobile block.

I still cannot see past Rahman, who is a dangerous pick too. But Maskaev would be a good pick.

Both past their best, with high-profile wins, never look flabby and former title holders.

I presume both are WBC top 10?

Recently dethroned, as David says physically still looks the part (just about), but before his title run the Russian was considered washed up and damaged goods.

Good right hand puncher but other than that Haye holds all the aces. Unless he is pricing himself out of the picture I would be lining up Maskaev all day long.

Why is there this obsession with knowing the opponent, venue, and time 12 weeks in advance ?
Name me the last time a major promotion went public so far in advance.
Patience lads, all will be revealed in time, and I've absolute confdence the bill, not just the main event will be worth seeing.

To be honest I'd sooner know what's happening with Jamie Moore right now.

I think its that time of year 26 - August is a 'dead' month fight wise so people look forward to the bills/match ups to come in the new season..

I agree there is plenty of time for an opponent to be announced but at least Haye's heavyweight forray is catching people's imaginations.. I for one cant wait to see him take on the big uns!

Rahman or Maskaev I would imagine. Both are names and have weak chins so would be primed for the big stunning KO that Haye will want to kick off with. Sultan Ibragimov is less enticing and let's hope to god it's not Timur Ibragimov either!

Cannot see Dimitrenko leaving his WBO/ZDF comfort zone for the fight unless he gets big bucks.

haha that article is so biased, the man is basically saying Haye would beat most of the actual HW crop with ease, without having seen Haye against a decent HW at least once !

It's not biased, it's OPINION. I happen to think Wladimir Klitschko would beat Haye with ease, and wouldn't pick him over Sam Peter or Valuev either. But outside of the titleholders, I honestly don't see much for Haye to worry about.

Ibragimov's a good shout - not the biggest guy in the world and far from the best, but is a recent champion and would be an excellent barometer of Hayes position vis a vis Klitschko.

Plus, what's so outlandish about being confident of Haye's potential at heavyweight? He's the UNDISPUTED world cruiserweight champion on the back of one serious gutcheck and one spectacular knockout. True, the poundage could make a difference, but on POTENTIAL, there's everything to like.

I think Oliver -- & I like Raff, to be honest -- it's 'cos Haye KO'd Mormeck. Raff was pretty set on JMM KOing Haye, pretty dismissive of DH when he did the job, & has been talking the boy down ever since...

Sorry Raff, just can't ever remember you giving an ounce of credit to our boy. FWIW I thought JMM fought like a lion that night; how he took those bodyshots I'll never know (& I watched from ringside).

I Gave Haye full credit for KOing Mormeck if you read my posts after the fight, in fact many haters would bitch about Haye's victory but I simply said he caught Mormeck with a good shot and diserved the win.
I also gave Haye credit for his win over Macca, Haye won and won big...
BUT !...I don't give credit to all the fuss and overexcitement over Haye's future at HW, and like many have said, even among British fans, we still don't know how he can fare against the top HWs, so its a bit premature to state he would easily beat the likes of McCline or Ibragimov...I will give Haye credit at HW when he will have beaten a few serious HWs, but until then he remains a cruiserweight champ moving to HW, just as Toney or Holyfield were at the time.

to be honest even if he does announce his opponent in the next couple of weeks, i wouldn't be surprised to see a switch of opponents later on, alot of heavyweight fights don't seem to come off when they should.

He caught Mormeck with a number of good shots. Particularly to the body. He broke him down, took his lumps, and then knocked the guy out.

Mormeck was doing pretty good, and was leading on points. There was really one shot that caught him in the eye and was followed by a vicious uppercut, the last shot was not even really necessary.

It was a competitive fight, but Mormeck was a bit outgunned.
